Weighted gloves for STS?

I posted this question over on the STS forum and didn't have any luck getting it answered so thought I'd try over here...

There are two gloves available, 2 lb & 4 lb but I don't know which I need for STS. For those of you who have gotten them, which did you get?

Thanks :)

Tracy

Hi,

I got the 2 pound, which is really 1 pound in each hand. There are 2 little sacks of weights for each hand, so you can actually start out with one half pound in each glove, then go to one pound.

I actually have both pairs. With the lighter set it's easier to take the weights in and out, but you obviously have less options with how much you can add. The heavier are a little harder to adjust because the wights fit in much tighter, but they have a palm in them which the lighter set doesn't.

It all comes down to how much you think you'll need to add. ;)

Hi Tracy!

I was just yapping about this subject this morning to the gals in my check-in group and thought I would share my thoughts.

As for the dumbbells, I started with the exact same dumbbells as you. I quickly realized I needed 12s and I use them frequently. I also added 20s once I got to Meso 2. I really could have used 20s for leg work in Meso 1 (I don't have a barbell) but I have Cathe's weighted vest which helped me up my weight. I also got Cathe's 2 pound gloves which are very useful. I thought about buying the 4 pound gloves, but decided to get 2 pound wrist weights from Target instead. This allows me to up my weight by 3 pounds if needed. So, for example, if I need 21 pounds I use a 20# dumbbell + the 1# weighted gloves, if I need 22 pounds I use the same dumbbell + the 2# wrist wrists and if I need 23 pounds I use the dumbbell, weighted gloves AND wrist weights. So much I know! Personally, I found I progress kind of slow (1 MAYBE 2 pounds per week) so I really needed a system were I could gradually up my weights.

HTH!

I have the 4 lb set. You have more options with this set.

Melagras, I noticed a lot of the reviews for the 4 lb gloves said the zipper breaks easily and that the weights are really hard to get in and out of the pouches. Have you found this with yours?

Thanks Katie! I'm still trying to figure out which gloves are best but it's good to know Target has wrist weights as options too :)

I'm kicking myself...I just sold some wrist weights in a yard sale about 2 mo. ago before I got STS and realized I could have used them :(

For STS, I purchased the heavier gloves and weighted vest. You can always go down in weight but not up. The heavier weight made it more challenging in cycle 3.

I got the 4 lb. It allows you to add as little as half a lb to 2 lbs on each hand when you're lifting. I wish they came in 6 lbs, because sometimes I need 3 lbs for my weight increment and have to come up with some creative ways to do it. Definitely go for the 4lb. And the weighted vest is a great investment too when you get to Meso 3. Especially for front squats. Balancing a heavy bar on your forearms is very uncomfortable.

It is a bit of a pain to get the weights in and out of them in the short amount of time you have between sets, so I've got a pair of 1 lb. weighted gloves that I use too.

DixieGirl,

I haven't had the zipper break yet. This may sound like a pain to do but I normally keep them fully loaded and swap out to my regular gloves if I don't need to use extra weights. That seems to work better for me instead of constantly adding/removing the weights. It takes me at least a minute to get the four weights into each glove. It is a tight fit.
