Weight is so weird

I broke down and bought a scale yesterday afternoon and when I got home, I weighed myself. I was pretty OK with the number, since it was less than I had expected. Then we ate dinner. All I had was about 3 oz. of beef tenderloin, some peas and a salad....then I decided I'd see how much my puppy weighs now. So I got on the scale again and I was 1.2 lbs. heavier than I was before dinner! I'll bet only 90 minutes had passed. It's so bizarre....

This morning, I weighed myself right after I got up and before eating anything...and I was 1.1 lbs. less than I was the first time I weighed myself last night and 2.3 less than when weighing the dog.

I'll take this morning's weight as my true weight...it makes me feel the best, since it's only 4-6 lbs. more than where I want to be.

It's amazing how much your weight can fluctuate, even in the course of a day. I'm not surprised about the weight after dinner. I knew someone who once gained 7 lbs after a huge dinner!

I can't weigh myself that frequently or I'll be in the looney bin. I do it every few months or so just for a reality check ;)

I am convinced more than ever, especially after utilizing Cathe for 2+ years, that weight really is just a number.

I'm not gaining weight. I'm retaining food.

Yeah, weighing myself that frequently isn't a normal thing for me. I weighed myself when I brought it home only because I wanted to see how much I weighed without my jeans, sneakers and leather belt. (2 lbs. less....) Then the second time was because I needed a base reading before picking up the dog.

This morning's weigh-in was just to get the "real" number before food and beverages and whatever else causes the fluctuations during the day. The scale is now in the box, shoved in the closet....not to be touched again until next Monday at 4:30 a.m.

I weigh myself only about once per month, at the same time of month, same time of day, on the gym scale. Doing it that way, I have weighed the same for umpteen years (except in the last year there has been a very slow, gradual weight loss, probably just from all the stress this year.) I find the consistency very reassuring. I highly recommend it. If I weighed myself more often, I'm sure I'd see the same fluctuations you're seeing, and would lose the forest for the trees.

I like the once a month weigh habit. I think I'll try every week and wean myself to once a month. Morning is the best time to weigh for me. I have to be careful because I can become a slave to the scale and it can make me discouraged.

Hi-

Is your new scale a digital scale? Sometimes they get squirrelly and the readings aren't so accurate.

My scale is digital, and I can weigh myself 3x in a row at get 3 different numbers. I should probably just get a new one, but just haven't gotten around to it.

Take care, Lynn
