Maybe this has been talked about before, but I just figured it out today.
Lay on a mat, and while doing barbell bench presses using heavy weights, you can use step risers to rest your barbell on. (do not use a top on the risers) I use three risers (depending on how large your plates are) on each side of me, it works so darn well! Try it, you'll like it.
If you want an incline or decline bench press, adjust the risers accordingly.
