Trying to Fit Yoga In for Tues Oct 15

Cathlete
Morning Ladies -

This morning I did Firm Cardio Overdrive - repeated the overdrive segment to make it 60". Added some propulsions, etc...but still tried not to overdo it on my foot. I used the Rebounder for the power running segments and high knees and got my HR up to 160. My new HRM states I burned 592 calories. This new one is sure giving me some high readings. I know it's been easier to take my HR cuz the buttons work well....and I take it at several points of the workout....so not sure if this is more accurate or not. I had my DH double check the settings ...weight, gender, etc. and he says it's correct. I know I've been working out pretty hard cuz I'm so depressed and frustrated.

I then did Caribbean Pilates for Abs 20", 10 Min Solutions Pilates for Butt/Thighs 10" and Pilates Stretch 10". Used my band for part of the pilates. I finished off with AM Yoga with Barbara Benagh - AM Breathwork Session 25". See....again I picked Beach settings for my pilates and yoga. I really wanted to do a 90 minute yoga this morning but I didn't get up early enough. I think I'm starting to get on a "pilates roll".

Christine - I didn't sign up with more than 1 temp agency cuz in the manual it states that if you turn down a job 3 times, you are in bad standing and I figured I should sign up with one then so I wouldn't have to do that.....but I thought I'd get called. I guess I'll have to set up an appointment with another one next week. I just hate that 3.5 hours of testing. I'm not a good test taker. Did they end up getting you a temp to hire position that you kept? Thanks for saying I'm poised and elegant........without really knowing me, but I've been thinking more along the lines of "age discrimination" cuz I'm getting up there.

Jen - Where did you read about the 100 rep theory? What is the purpose of it? I think I remember reading something like that long ago...but I can't remember what it said it was good for.

Yve - hope you are feeling better. I just got put on a dose pack of prednisone and it doesn't seem to be helping that much. I may need to call him back and ask about antibiotics too.

Hi Kel ........hope you are doing okay.

Have a great day ladies .

Hi everyone. Sorry I didn't get a chance to check in yesterday. I just had a really busy & weird day. Anyway... yesterday morning, I did PUB & this morning, I did LowMax. That was my first Cathe workout ever so it was nostalgic... & I really enjoyed it. I also didn't have a chance to do any yoga over the weekend but my DH has a meeting tonight so I'll be able to do some tonight (thank goodness). I'll try to check back in & let you know what practice I did when I finish.

I placed some of my orders over the weekend. I ordered my resistance bands & loops from Fitness Wholesale online. Any of you ever order from them? I wonder how long it will take for shipping & delivery? I also ordered Kelly Coffey's Kickboxing & NYC, along with Yoga for Stress with the Dali Lama, from Amazon. I've already received the shipping notification for the Kelley Coffey DVDs but I haven't heard anything about the Yoga DVD yet. I'm planning to run out to Dick's Sporting goods today to pick up a pair of 25# DBs & I'm going to place my Collage order Wednesday evening since my DH will be gone to another meeting. It's much easier to take care of my business when he's not around. Right now, I plan to order Muscle Max, Gaiam Yoga Dance Fusion, & at least one of Cathe's othere DVDs from her last series (LIC is the one I'm leaning toward, although I really want DM & B&G too - I don't think I'll get BM2, simply because it's so darn long & even the premixes are really too long to fit into my early a.m. workouts). I'm still interested in getting Yoga for Happiness & Yoga Shakti but I don't know if I'll get them yet or not. I may wait & get them for Christmas since I've got so many other purchases going on right now.

Lora - Great workout. You always do such varied routines, filled with cardio or weights, pilates, & yoga. I wish I had the discipline to get up as early as you but it's a chore to just drag my butt out of bed by 5:30 every morning. Oh well. I guess I'll just live vicariously through you - LOL! About your job search & temp agencies, I just wanted to mention that the job I currently have was a temp job when I started... & I've been here for 13 years now. So it is certainly possible for a temp job to turn into a long term career. I'll be thinking about you & wishing you the best of luck as you continue your search.

Christine - Great job on your race over the weekend! I saw the Pats win & they were looking good. I bet you guys were happy about that.

Jen - Sounds like you're getting in some great workouts... & great DOMS too - LOL!

Yve - Hi if you check in later. I hope you're feeling better!

So did everyone here order the new Cathe DVDs? I'm really excited to get them & I hope there won't be too much of a learning curve so I can just jump right in & do them. At this point, I'm planning to do them 4 days in a row, followed up by a day of yoga or cardio. I'll probably do them for 2 weeks in a row & then take 2 weeks off. How does that sound? How do you ladies plan to fit them into your rotations?

Well, I better go for now. Hope everyone has a great day & I'll be sure to check back in on y'all later on.

Hi ladies,

Going to ashtanga class tonight. I am so looking forward to it... especially meditation part.

Lora - Sorry you aren't feeling well. Your infection must have gotten pretty bad if they put you on prednisone. That is really something. For how long will you have to take them? Have you ever tried something called Flonase? It is a steroid also - but much much milder than prednisone - and specific for sinus infections and allergies. Prednisone is powerful - but usually geared towards chest infections.

Kel - Congrats on the first Cathe workout. I like your new pic - where was the picture taken? Nice work on the shopping day! Hope you enjoy your new purchases.

Hi to Christine and Jen - Hope you both have a nice day.

Yve

Yve - Thanks for noticing my new avatar picture! It was taken at a local park & the brick archway is a centerpiece that I designed. The park is one of just a few in the entire country that is accessible to children of all abilities so they can all play together. There are areas for each age group, as well as areas desgned for those with sight &/or hearing impairment, swings that wheelchairs can be hooked right into, & lots of other really cool stuff. It was by far the most meaningful project I've ever been involved in so thanks again!

Well, I went to Dick's during lunch & I was able to limit my purchase to just a set of 25# DBs. I'm looking forward to getting the new DVDs & hopefully putting my new purchase to work! I'm still trying to decide which yoga workout to do tonight so I'll let y'all what I decide.

Hope everyone has a great afternoon & I'll "see" you later!:)

Yve - I've been on Flonase for years.....ever since I was diagnosed with asthma. I refuse to have surgery for my nasal/sinus polyps and pansinusitis, so I have to be evaluated for medical treatment by the ENT every 3 months. I just got antibiotics to go on also. I will probably need to do this every 3 months or so. My problems are pretty severe...but I don't want surgery.

Kel - is that Yoga for Stress Relief that you purchased the one with Barbara Benagh by Body Wisdom? If so, it's on that beach I love, Half Moon Bay in Antigua.

Got my Cathe shipping notice just now!!

Lora - Yes, that's the one! Do you have it? It looks really good & has lots of workout options so I'm looking forward to getting it. I also really want those other 2 but since I already have a Collage order planned, I should probably wait until closer to Christmas to get those. But who knows... I may break down & buy EVERYTHING I want right now! So happy for you that your new Cathe DVDs are shipping. Woo Hoo!!! Did it say when you should receive them?

Kel - yes, I have it. The beach is my fave. It's so relaxing. It's more of a restorative practice.....so I usually only use it when I'm working and need to destress at night. There is a sciatia segment on it that I've used ofen.....but I always fall asleep doing it. You will be amazed how much tension/stress you hold in your abdomen when you do this DVD. I just got the new one by Body Wisdom with Barbara Benagh...AM/PM and have been enjoying it. It also has several options and is more on the restorative side...but has a few more strenuous things. Stress Relief is raved about at VF. I've not used it as much as everyone over there though.....cuz I haven't been working. Also.....once I'm working.....I won't be so "balanced" with my workouts......i.e., the yoga/pilates will probably cease due to time constrictions....so I'm trying to enjoy it while I can....but I'm so stressed about not having a job......that I'm not really enjoying myself....if that makes any sense.
Half Moon Bay is TO DIE FOR!!! You will love hearing the ocean and doing that DVD.

Okay... I'm back & I finally fit in some yoga... thank goodness! I did Yoga Journal's Step By Step Series. First I did, practice #1, Foundation Poses for Strength & Stamina, followed by #3, Balancing Poses for Focus & Energy, & finally #2, Bending & Twisting Poses for Flexibility. I skipped the final relaxation in all three & did the guided relaxation practice in Yoga Journal's Yoga for Stress Relief. The entire practice took over an hour & it was both challenging & relaxing. I feel much more balanced now.

Lora - That DVD sounds like it's right up my alley & I'm looking forward to getting it even more now. I'm also looking forward to getting the new Cathe's but I ordered kind of late so I don't expect to get them right away. Of course, that's not keeping me from checking my email or UPS tracking every hour or so - LOL. But I need some of the supplies I ordered before I can start doing them anyway so it's no biggie.

Well, I'm off to do a little laundry... maybe play the piano & draw some too. I have the night to myself since my DH has that meeting to attend. He'll be back but it won't be until later. Hope everyone has a great evening & I'll be back tomorrow.

Namaste!:)

Hi ladies! Tonight's WO was Slim and Lean Back (deadlifts and rows) twice through followed by 100 deadlifts. I then did Quick Fix 10 min Ab Burn segment. I did not get to my cardio tonight...ran out of time :(. One of my Bassett Hounds was acting attention starved, so I sat with her awhile after I got home from work and lost all track of time.

Lora-The 100 reps is from M&F Hers, the July/August issue. Here's the text "Training technique...First to 100 Wins! If there's one time in this magazine that we would allow you to sit at the multicolored dumbbell rack it's today, because that colorful bouquet of fitness equipment is going to be plenty. It's not the color you need to be concerned with-it's the application. How does 100 reps sound to you? TRY IT: For your next set of biceps curls or overhead triceps extensions, pick a weight that's roughly 20%-30% of the weight that you use for 10 strict reps. Your actual goal is to perform at least 70 reps before you stop to rest. If you can do all 100 reps then the weight you selected is probably too light. If you stop at rep No. 70, rest for the same number of reps left until you reach 100 or 30 seconds. Because the weight is so light and reps are so high, this method thoroughly trains the slow-twitch fibers for the first half of the set, but your body will then have to call upon the fast-twitch fibers to complete the set. Perform this hardcore shock routine 1-2 times per week for 2-4 weeks, with at least two days of rest in between. Sounds easy-until you try it."

I am using this method and adding it on to whatever endurance exercise I already have planned, which works well since I am just training one body part per day. I will probably continue it for two weeks and then finish out my current rotation as usual.

Great workout this morning-love the variety! All this talk about beach workouts makes me want to get one out!

Kel-Wow, what a great project and accomplishment! I love that kids have a place like that to play together! That is really neat...it must be amazing to be a part of such a worthwhile and meaningful project. That's really exciting about your workouts! Can't wait to hear your reviews on those!

Yve-Hope you enjoy your astanga class! I really miss taking a live class every now and then. Are you all recovered from your big Thanksgiving weekend? Your house must seem very quiet now after all that company!

Have a great night everyone! No shipping notice for me yet!!!
