Toe question

Well, sort of. Yesterday I REALLY hurt my baby-toe on some wooden steps (outside- not finished, raw wood!). I mean, I was walking by it kinda fast because I thought my son had hurt himself and my little toe caught on the step... bloody and painful mess!!! I wanted to cry and puke at the same time it hurt so bad!!!:eek: Ooooo and my potty mouth was a flowin'

I can't wear closed shoes because it hurts waaayyyyyy to much!! I'm going to attempt some barefooted weight workouts until I can comfortable wear shoes again. Does anybody have any other workout suggestions?? I'm thinking I might try hopping on my stair stepper in my Shape sandals. Some stretching & maybe yoga... nothing too toe intensive, though.

Thanks!
Pam

Hi Pam.

I got a tattoo on my foot about 2 months ago and while it was healing I could not wear closed shoes w/socks. I did my weight work outs bare foot but was also able to do the combos and upper body blast portions of STS MMA Boxing bare foot. I wore weighted gloves and it was a great work out! HTH!

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for the suggestions! It's quite an odd feeling working out in bare-feet, but kinda fun! I just did Muscle Max and had no problems except for standing stretches on one leg... who knew the baby toe helps with balance! :D

I actually prefer to do lower impact kick boxing dvds barefoot like Ilaria dvds. I have been doing some Turbo Fire dvds barefoot, but I think it led to a soreness in my achilles tendon, so I am wearing my shoes for the high impact stuff.

Pam,

I was thinking about this question on the way home from work and was going to suggest trying a full k/b routine barefoot but just keep it grounded. Not sure now though b/c of what the above poster says about her achilles. Wouldn't want to add insult to injury! As for the one legged stretches, you were probably so busy keeping pressure off the injured toe that it threw off your balance. Hold on to something next time!:)

I can do weights barefoot, but I always feel like I'm gonna drop something on my toes, so I don't like too. It throws off my squat/lunges positions a bit, too.

I like kickboxing barefoot. I'm on carpet, so it's less tweaky on the knees barefoot. I can't step barefoot, it feels weird.

I've ripped my little piggie toenails off several times -ouch! The soreness usually subsides in a day or two and you'll be able to put sneakers back on.

Thank you both very much for the ideas and support! :D It's feeling quite a bit better today. I hope I can wear normal shoes tomorrow! At least it happened in the warm weather season so I can wear sandals! (of course I wouldn't have been wearing sandals if it were cold):p

No yoga. Weights, maybe, swimming probably not. The pressure of the water on your toe would be too much.

I have had a similar injury and I think you may have broken it. The 'puke' feeling is what gives it away. You can get an xray if you want, but all they say is take ibuprofen and keep it iced and up. phooey. who has time to sit on their butt?

The other thing to do is tape it up good to the toe next to it. That will protect it and help it heal. That's what the doc would do, even if it's broken (I'm a nurse).

I do all my weight training barefoot to help strengthen my toes and feet. They get lazy in sneakers. Always fun trying to make it through a workout without a nasty stubbing. I might not do any cardio if I were you, unless you have a bike.

Sorry about your toe, I felt your pain reading your post. Hope it's better soon.
