Timed tests....PANIC!

Ok, so once again, I have to take an online test and I'm totally panicked!! I've been doing this for many months now and it never gets better. I've been staring at the 'begin test now' button for hours and I can't push it!! I know I'm scared because it's timed and I only have 20 minutes to finish. Major anxiety people!!
Anyone else have this problem??

Carolyn

It's for a class called "Research for Fitness and Injury Prevention". Even the title is scary huh? :) It's the first test of the semester so I'm sure that's contributing to my panic.

Carolyn

You're absolutely right Catherine! I just need to bite the bullet and finish it already. Ok, here I go......I think.;-)

Carolyn

Ok, I'm DONE! Thank God I'm finished! Whew....

Thanks for the kick in the butt Catherine. :)

Carolyn

Oh, right away. :) I got 100% - but I think I got lucky on a few of the questions. It's funny but even though I started the semester pretty strong, I know I'll be panicking for EACH and EVERY test. For some reason, online tests scare me to death!!! :)

OMG, I have hated timed test since I was a kid. In third grade we had these tests in math that were timed and you were supposed to memorize your times tables. Holy cow! Talk about stress. Every time that I had one my mom knew because I somehow had a stomach ache those mornings.

You'll do fine. I am sure you are prepared.

ETA - I didn't read all the posts before I posted. Congrats on the 100% Carolyn.

Carolyn,

I'm right there with ya! I've been taking my paralegal classes online now for 3 semesters and this semester I'm taking 2. I know what you mean about not being able to push that button because once you push that your time starts! My first test online I sat there for probably 20 mins saying OK now I'm going to push it, well maybe I should study a little more, no OK push it. But after the first 1 or 2 tests I relaxed a little because I knew how the tests were structured. My method is that I go through the questions and if I can't answer it right away I move on and then I go back to them and then I usually have time to recheck my answers. I don't know how your tests are set up so maybe you can't do that. Also, I have the chapters marked in my book with tabs so that if I do need to look something up I can find it right away. My legal terminology class tests are usually 2 chapters at a time and there are 20 questions with only 15 mins to complete. My other classes I would have 40 mins to complete a 25 question test. Talk about stress. But it's mainly memorizing the definitions. Some people think that it would be so easy to take the test online because then you can use your book. Well, yeah you can but you still have to know the information because you can't spend most of the time allowed flipping through the book. I took my first quiz (10 questions in 15 mins.) in my criminal law class and it was HARD! The teacher (a criminal law attorney) said that the tests and quizes are deceptively simple. He wasn't kidding. Well, I wish you all the luck and I'm sure you will do great.

I took an on-line test last fall and I swear for the first few tests I had to do lamaze breathing to calm myself down before I started it:7 I would yell, OK everyone, Mom's starting now, leave me alone, I have to do well...and my heart would beat hard and I would be so anxious. We had to do 2 per week, and after about 2 weeks, it got better, and I ended up with 98% in the class. This despite my modem going down 30 minutes into the 2 hour final. I spend 20 minutes trying to get it back up. 15 minutes driving into work, and then tried to jam everythin into the remaining time at work with all the work noise around. I did not do well on the final. The instructor was sympathetic and was going to try and figure out a way to give me my time back, but since I did not need the final to get an A(I had 110% in the class), I said no.

Hi Kim! Wow, a 2 chapter test for 15 minutes!! Ok, THAT is stressful!!
I actually do exactly what you do. I look through all of the questions first and answer the ones I'm sure about. It's so hard not to keep looking at the countdown clock though! People are always thinking that online classes are easy but boy, in some ways they are harder don't you think?

OMG Dorothy! I can't believe you lost your connection DURING an exam!!! I think that's like my worst nightmare!!! I was so stressed for you just READING your post! At least you still got an 'A' in your class! :)

Carolyn

Karin, I've always hated timed tests too!! It's like double the pressure for me! I felt EXACTLY the same way for those timed time-table tests too! I actually failed them because I was so nervous!

Carolyn

I gotta tell ya, when I first notified the instructor I was soooooo mad. The test was really, really difficult and would have taken the whole 2 hours, but I would have done well because I studied hard(I ended up with 64% and only getting 45 minutes to work on it). He felt really bad for me, and said he would try to get my time back. I said no because I was so mad, that I had lost the right frame of mind to do the test by then, and I had such a high grade it did not matter. This on-line system had something that would pop up and tell you the remaining time and remind you to save your work, and that darn pop-up used to make me terribly nervous.
