Tae Bo Advise

I can't step as much as I would like to due to a knee problem. So, I am looking fot something to do that will provide low impact aerobics. I was wondering which Tae Bo dvds would be beneficial. Thanks.

I only have one tae bo, but I just wanted to warn you that kicking will hurt your knee worse than stepping will. If you want to do some punching, Michael Olajide has some great w/os. I love Aerobox, in spite of Kathy Smith. It is a great workout!

I don't agree that kicking WILL hurt your knees more than stepping. YMMV. If you are careful to not extend your knee fully (only to about 95%), you not only protect the knee, but work the hamstrings more to control the extention. Stepping workouts with a lot of torque (fast changes of direction that make it hard to place the foot/knee in line) are, IMO, more knee unfriendly than kickboxing. That's why I've gotten rid of a lot of my Cathe step workouts, but have no trouble with kickboxing).

Other good kickboxing workouts are: Powerstrikes (excellent form from a black belt), Janis Saffel's kickbox circuit, Kimberly's Spreen's Box and Flow (a shorter workout with kickboxing and a good stretch).

I have knee problems and kickboxing is friendlier to my knees than stepping. The only Tae Bo series I like is the Get Ripped series. Kathryn mentions the Powerstrikes and these are the best I've tried so far. Cathe has a few kickboxing workouts, but you might want to modify the high-impact aerobics moves she inserts into the routines. KPC is her best kickboxing work so far, and those have jump-kicks that may aggravate your knees. You can skip the jump and just do the kick.

I believe that adding kickboxing to my routine over the past year has strengthened my knees. They are no longer so sensitive to impact. I still do make sure not to overdo things. I use a 4" step or take the step altogether. I do my cardio on puzzle mats and on a rebounder sometimes. I also do a good amount of floor work instead of weighted squats/lunges. Kickboxing is a perfect way to work my legs and do cardio at the same time.

I'm sorry, I didn't communicate my thoughts well! x( What I meant was that improper form can really hurt your knees. I have taken a lot of classes at the gym (back when I still had a membership) and a lot of participants forms were really bad. You can blow out your knee if you do not know how to execute kicks properly, it as happened to two people that I know. It is safer if you have not had someone help you with your form to not attempt high intensity/rep kicks if you have knee problems. You want to start slow and practice correct form to promote muscle memory before you start really getting into it. If you feel any pain in your knee at all, stop.

Hi if you have knee problems don't use the get ripped or the advanced live series because there are advanced.I have a few basic live workouts (30 minutes lenght each workout)and you can substitute the jumping stepping in place. They are great workouts.
