sweating and progress

I read somewhere once that as you get your body into better shape, your body becomes more efficient at cooling itself (sweating, etc.). I am wondering if you think that could be true.

I think it is for me, because these past few months, I have stepped things up and have noticed that I am TOTALLY sweating, where I just perspired before...same DVDs as before. It is a very noticeable difference. I do not think that it is my level of effort, or mood, or anything else.

Any thoughts? Have you heard this before or found it true for your body?

In my running class they said that the fitter you become, the more you will sweat. I found it odd myself but this is what they say! I have no idea if I sweat more now than I used to when I first started exercising. If I do, I would have attributed it to simply doing TOUGHER work outs but I guess that's not always the case!:)

I definitely sweat more than before I was in shape. I just drip sweat. It's pretty gross, but at the same time it feels good because I know I'm working hard. I also attribute it to the amount of water I drink (around 168 oz a day).

I've definitely found this to be true - I leave puddles everywhere now, and start sweating really early on - before I'd make it halfway through a workout before drops starting flying. I've done some reading about exercise during pregnancy (still ttc) and concerns about heart rate & thermal regulating (the thinking being if your core temp is too hot=birth defects). Basically, studies have shown that this line of thinking for pregnancy is old school - esp. if you are an avdanced exerciser b/c you have already built up a great temp control system and sweat more than non-exercisers.

Did that ramble make any sense?

I've also read that once exercise becomes a habit, your body gets used to the idea that the core temp is going to raise, and gets a jump on it by starting to sweat sooner.

In the same vein, there are studies that show that habitual runners' heart rates (? or is it metabolism?) begin to increase when they are putting their running shoes on. The body again has gotten used to what is coming next and is preparing for it ahead of time.

I noticed this several years ago when I was taking advances exercise classes. I hardly ever sweated before that. Now I sweat quite a bit.

Am I naive? Why is it that I am dripping with sweat and Cathe along with her crew look good? Do they really take that many breaks during filming?

>Kathryn - does this mean all I have to do now is put my shoes

Or maybe just think of working out! (though I don't know how long that effect would last!).
