Such a bummer

Anyone see that the new stimulus bill includes a tax credit for 1st time home buyers? This amended credit is for $7500 and doesn't have to be paid back. But it's only eligible for people who buy a home in 2009.

Guess when DH and I bought our very first home? June 2008. When I first realized this, my heart just sunk. We could really use that money. We are eligible for the old credit, which is also for $7500 but must be paid back over a 15-yr period. It's the equivalent of a zero-interest loan, which is nice. We may take it and pay off our credit card. But still, it really stinks to miss the boat by a hair.

same here we got our home in august. the original credit was from ppl who bought from 5/08-7/09 so those that qualified for that now don't have to pay back but those from 08 do? it doesn't seem fair but then again i am not going to complain to loudly at least we get something. and $500 out of my refund every year will be a thousand times better then the same amount i pay per month with credit cards and car payments. its been hard to pay more the minimum b/c the price of everything(electric company just raised rates 23% gas is still nearly $2 year, and food is becoming outrageous again) so it would be nice to get that monkey off my back. we get plenty back every every year that $500 would not be sorely missed. as long as i get back enough to pay my insurance for the year i feel i am ahead. dh doesn't want to quit his second job but will cut back on hours so that will still be extra money going into savings or fun time stuff instead of trying to stay one step ahead of this economy mess.

how r u enjoying your home? we are just happy to not be paying the same in rent to somebody else. we also had gotten brand new everything with the home so we haven't had to do any work. the company takes old homes and rebuilds them and prefer to sell to working families through vhda/fha loans. we qualified after months of sifting through our business but so happy to have something for us at the same price as paying rent every month(the mortgage includes our homeowner's and taxes so we don't have to think about that stuff either as long as we pay on time we are good).

keep your head up though you never know they may give us a slight break too.
