sts vs. clx

I know we can't truly compare STS to CLX yet since no one has STS yet, but I'm on the fence with CLX at the moment. I've been previewing the CLX workouts and previewing the STS clips and debating on sending CLX back to order STS instead.

My goal is to lose about 15 pounds, get stronger and put some muscle on to shape my body a little bit.

I like how in CLX she lifts slow enough in all the workouts to really lift heavy. I'm surprised how much heavier I can go lifting slower. Heavier for me anyway, I can use my 12s and 15s which I can't do with fast workouts. I noticed in STS cycle 1 and 2 Cathe lifts a little faster, although the slow and heavy cycle is #3 and there are no clips of that one that I can find. I also like CLX doesn't use a ton of equipment.

Cathe does more sets in STS, do yous think more sets give better results? Or is the 1 set in CLX enough to give results?

I guess I have a mind set more is better and that's why I'm looking at STS instead... longer workouts, more sets...

Someone tell me they have seen results doing only 1 set of an exercise and I should stick to CLX?

Isn't the first cycle of STS the more sets, and then it progressive to heavier and heavier? So that means by cycle 3, you will be lifting heavy and probably fewer sets. Can't answer which will be better for you because I know nothing about CLX.

You can look at the workout cards in the 'Calendar' section of Workout Manager. There's a workout card for each disks in STS. You can compare how many reps/sets Cathe does in each workout for each Meso.

For Chest/Back disk 28 in meso 3, Cathe does 36 sets of exercises. Most sets are 7 reps each. For example, you do 6 different sets of flat bench presses. (the first 2 sets have 12 reps, the rest have 7). How does that sound for you based on your goals?

I can't give you any details about results because I'm only in my second week of CLX. I can tell you that CLX is nothing like anything I've done before. IMO, change is good.
I've done high reps and sets using 8-20lb dumbells. I'm lifting completely different with CLX. My lightest weight is 15lbs. I can't seem to lift heavy with several sets. I compensate with lighter weights.

With CLX, I'm breathing heavy, sweating, and feeling completely challenged with just one set. I feel I'm working harder than ever in a very short amount of time.

I pre-ordered STS and intend to use the program when I'm finished with CLX. I also plan to revisit CLX.
Both systems are different so I feel I can benefit from both.

ITA!

I'm in the middle of my first week with CLX, and I love it!
Yes, there is only one set for each particular exercise, but the body parts are hit a couple of times. Chest isn't overdone, as in many workouts, and so far, the splits looks nicely balanced.

There have been studies done that show that 1 working set (usually done after warm-up sets in the gym) is as effective as multiple sets, if the right intensity is given to the set. CLX demands this intensity by asking you to 'fail' between 10-12 or 6-8 reps (the former in phases 1 and 3, the latter in phase 2). If you do as Chalene says, and "go heavy or go home," I think these sets can be as effective as (or almost as effective as) multiple sets.

Like Cynthia, I am lifting heavier than I would in a workout that has multiple sets of the same exercise (except for back, which has always been my strong point. ).

The slower pace definitely makes the moves more challenging and effective, IMO. It's like all the muscle fibers are working, rather than momentum helping the move so some fibers don't get called on.

I think the combination exercises (doing an upper and lower body move in the same set: in the first phase, they are sequential, in the final phase they are simultaneous), by spreading the effort over the entire body in a way, rather than just isolation one muscle group, make the exercises feel like they are less 'work' than they really are. Every weight workout his the lower body, and I've got some DOMS and some muscle firmness (yes, after only 3 of these workouts!) to let me know that it's effective.

I also am sweating llke mad after only about 20 minutes (okay, in circuit 2, it was only 17 minutes!!)

I think CLX are very good for increasing metabolism and would be useful for losing weight while toning muscle.

I feel worked out without feeling burnt out and spent, and that's a nice feeling. It makes me want to do my workout the next day, rather than dread it. The workouts are short, but they are time-efficient rather than incomplete.

I'm loving the system so far. (But it's actually making me dread STS a bit, as I don't know if I have any interest in working out for 50+ minutes at a time anymore. I may be modifying STS workouts to fit in a shorter time frame.).

Since all we've seen of STS so far is clips, it's hard to compare. All I can say is that IMO, CLX is definitely worth it.

In meso #3 we only do 4 working sets for each exercise. Since Flat bench Press is the first exercise we do two additional light sets at about 50% of your 1RM as a warm up.

Ladies, are you using CLX to get your one rep max for STS?

I will use it as a guide. I'm not interested in doing the 1 rep testing with STS. I know many are concerned about it, but I'm not. I'm going to do what I normally do, lift according to how I feel that day. There are times I lift too heavy, have to pause the dvd to lower my weights or raise them if they are too light. I think the 1rep testing would make me crazy!

I am with you guys, I have no interest in plowing through the list of exercises and finding my 1 rep max, I have been lifting for over 15 years and am very intuitive about how much weight I need, so STS will be a trial and error thing for me at first which is fine with me.
