Step mill?

Has anyone used one of these machines? It's kind of like a rotating series of little steps. My gym has one, I was thinking of giving it a try..I'm curious whether it's effective or not. Safe to use regularly?

Yes, I have used one of these machines at my recreation center. I love it. It really kicks my butt cardio-wise, but it does take some concentration to not trip up a step once in awhile :) . I sweat profusely on this thing and usually do an interval workout on it. I think that it is an effective workout. In terms of it being safe I only try to do it once a week because I am not sure how knee-friendly it is. I haven't had any pain, but I don't want to overdo it. Let us know how you like it!

This is the most intense machine I've ever been on!! I agree that it would be great for an interval workout too. Let us know what you think of it!!

Man I wish I could find one of these used for my home gym. Haven't used them all that often, just because they're hard to find, but each experience was memorable...and sweaty! Be ready for a great workout, and for me, it does require some concentration to avoid stumbling. Have fun!

I used to use this when I belonged to a gym. This is a kick your butt machine! This is a killer! I used to use it once a week and alternated it with running on the treadmill and the eliptical. I thought it was safe enough. You just need to give it a try and see how it feels.

I just used one of those for the first time yesterday. I got a guest pass to go w/ my DH to his gym to do some cardio...OMG!!! That step mill kicked my butt! I did an interval workout and by the end of it, I was dripping in sweat. My DH said it looked like I had been swimming. Thanks honey.x( It is very diffivult, however, to read a magazine while on the step mill. After almost tripping and falling off, I put People away until the elliptical!!!

I absolutely love this machine. I use it at least 2 to 3 times a week for my cardio. I have seen great results and I get on it for 40 minutes on level 12. For two minutes, I will skip every other step then step normally for two minutes and then go back to every other step for two and so on. After 20 minutes of that, I put it down to level 8 and I turn to the side and step sideways for 10 minutes and turn to the other side and step for 10 minutes that way. I can barely walk when I get off, but it has really helped my legs and butt.

Yep, it's a killer for sure. What cracks me up is when you're watching someone on it, it looks like they're going so slooooooow & it makes you think there's no possible way it could be a good workout, but when you get on it look out, it'll really kick your butt.

Laura, that is exactly what I was going to say! I always feel sort of embarrassed when I am on it because it looks like I am going so slowly, but it is really hard work. My trainer at the gym had me doing a circuit workout when the step mill, doing step mill for 5 mins a few times during the workout. It was really tough and gets your heart rate up very fast.

I use this machine a lot. I call it the "Stairway to Heaven." I love love love this machine. It is basically no impact, so it has never bothered my knees. I get a fantastic workout. I use it to do intervals, and I use some of the built in programs. I highly recommend this machine. It is a patootie kicker for sure.
