sprinting

morning all :)
i have a running question. i love to run, but tend to be a steady pace, distance runner at about an 11 minute mile, which is more like a fast jog, i guess, lol. i am considering adding some sprints into my runs. i usually do about 4 or 5 miles at a clip. for those of you who sprint, do you sprint a certain distance? or until your hr reaches it's peak for a certain time frame? i guess i want to know what exactly will constitute an effective sprint for me. thanks in advance, hope everyone is having a nice day :)
 
I don't know about other runners but I usually do my sprints by time. I might sprint for 30-60 seconds then recover. I'd say 30 or less if it's an all out sprint.
