So sleeeeepy.....

I did a major boneheaded maneuver yesterday morning. I got up at 4:30 to walk the dogs, as I do everyday. Took my thyroid pill, then left with the dogs. Half an hour later, as we were getting close to home, I noticed everything was looking kinda funny - like I was starting to hallucinate or something.

Then I got home and got online and noticed that the words on the screen looked like they were moving. And I was walking sideways. Uh-oh! I had taken an Ambien instead of my thyroid pill. The bottles look the same, and the pills are similar - except the color (one is blue, the other white), but I was just waking up and didn't really pay attention.

So, I sent my boss an email that I had to go back to bed for a few hours and I'd work from home. No problem. Cool. I got up at 9:00 and worked for the rest of the day.

Except...my whole sleep was hosed last night. I was up and down all night and now I'm dragging. It's gonna be a looooong day!

You poor thing! Thank goodness you weren't driving when it kicked in. Hope you are back on schedule soon.

I think I need some of that Ambien stuff!;)

Hmmm...it might be cool to take one and then listen to "Dark Side of the Moon!";-)

You know, I probably shouldn't admit this, but I LOVE the Ambien! I got a prescription for it last summer while I was having a nasty bout of insomnia. It really didn't help me then, but the insomnia went away after I told my boss off. :)

I was having a little trouble getting to sleep a couple months ago and I had refills on it. They're really great, but apparently can be addictive (even though they say on the commercials they are not). My doctor wouldn't give me refills until I tried more natural ways of getting to sleep. I guess that's why I go to this doctor - because he pays attention to that kind of thing. I found the natural way to get to sleep - ear plugs.

Now I only take the Ambien very occassionally - mostly because I paid for them and even with the copay, they're kind of pricey. I've only got about 10 of them left. :-( The whole "walking sideways" thing always cracks me up.

Hi Donna:

That is an amusing story ( if its not you!) :)

I wanted to chime in and say that I love the Ambien too!! Like you, I don't take it very often, but when I do, it works wonders!

The only problem I find is that unless I have 7 hours to "sleep it off", I'm kind of groggy the next day. ( Ergo, the problem, that its rare that I can find that amount of time TO sleep it off!!)

Hope you are aren't too sleep hungover now!!

Take care, Lynn M.

Here's another to chime in...I LOVE Ambien!!! When my life is particularly stressful, I suffer from terrible insomnia. About two years ago, I didn't sleep for a week and a half (I would be able to take short naps but couldn't sleep at night). The Ambien really helped. I am taking it again right now as I am working full-time, planning my wedding AND preparing for my comprehensive exams for my doctoral degree (yeah, 4 questions, 60 pages, six weeks to do them along with an oral examination...it's about as fun as a root canal!). Besides the Ambien, Cathe keeps me sane. I wake up at 0445 every morning and look forward to getting up and working out and I jam it for about 90 minutes. It's such a tension reliever and I don't have to focus on anything but working out. Lately, it's my only free time. If I am especially stressed, I will come home and do another workout. Cathe is my guilty pleasure.

Anyway, YAY AMBIEN!

Oh, and I don't experience grogginess the next day. I tried Unisom and the next day I felt like i was on Benadryl!!!

Usually, I don't feel groggy. Today I did, but only because I hosed up my sleep pattern by taking it at 4:30 a.m. after sleeping for 7 hours already. I took a half hour nap when I got home from work and missed my Cathe. :-( Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
