Should I work through this soreness?

Hey ladies,

I worked biceps on Friday and I still have muscle soreness. It was really sore the next day after that I couldn't hardly move my arms. So yesterday I worked chest and seemed to keep the soreness going. Do I lift weights today or give it one more day? I think I could do the work out but should I?

Thanks for your advice,

kim

I vote give it another day. Working the chest brings in the biceps as assisters quite frequently, and if you're still sore that's a sign. A couple of years ago I got a little too hotsy-pantsy with my biceps curls, trying for THAT LAST REP, and popped a few million bursa sacs up near the anterior deltoid. It took not one, not two but three MONTHS to get that arm back to normal.

Kim you really need to use your judgement. I had very sore inner thighs and glutes this morning. I was just going to do the upper body premix from Supersets. But once I got through the warmup I felt pretty good so I started over and did it in it's entirety. Sometimes once you get the muscles warm they don't hurt so much.

Which workout did you do that gave you doms for so long?

IMO, your biceps are telling you that they are still in the process of repairing the microtrauma inflicted on them during their workout. To work them now would interfere with that repair process (and with the resultant growth in muscle and strength that it entails) rather than allowing it to happen.
I'd do a leg workout or a cardio workout, perhaps.

What kind of rotation are you doing? Back/biceps one day; chest/shoulder/triceps the next; legs after that? I've found that I get much better results by putting the leg workout day in between the two upper body days, to allow for more recovery time for the upper body muscles (and the shoulder, which is worked during both upper body workouts).
