Shoes

I need some input from the vast numbers that come here. I have been wearing Asics (crosstrainers) but ordered the Ryka Iseum. I LOVED the grip of the Rykas but couldn't get the fit just right. The 9 was too small (my left foot actually fell asleep and I've since found out I have a high instep on that foot) and the 9.5 too big. Soooo, I'm looking for something else that has the grip of the Ryka but a better fit. Any input?

TIA

Hey Sue,

Do you have a Foot Locker or Lady Foot Locker or good sporting goods store near you? The best thing to do when looking for a shoe is try them on & bounce around a little in them in the store.

I, too, purchased the Rykas Iseum. I had just the opposite happen with me. I got my regular size (10), they fit fine in the store. I did try on a 9.5 but they were too tight. I did exactly what I suggested to you above. Bounced around, did some lunges and static lunges just to feel the toe of the shoe bend. I LOVED them. Until I wore them for an actual workout. I HATE THEM! I spent $60 on a shoe that I HATE HATE HATE! They are too loose in the toe & my feet feel like they slide around in them when I do step.

I'm wearing them because I spent too much money not to. I'll wear them for 6 months & go buy a new pair! LOL But not without serious trials in the store.

Unfortunately, I have to drive quite a ways to find FL or LFL. Our town is growing it just hasn't gotten a majority of what I need. I usually order from Road Runner Sports because they have an awesome 30 or 60 day trial (I mean, you wear the crap out of them and if you don't like them send them back) for RAC members. So, right now, I'm trying to make my new Asics work...but the grip issue is still present. Thanks for your input. I'll do a search and see if there is one closer than Atlanta.

Hi Sue, I had the same problem of my feet falling asleep. How were the Asics for you? If they were great why not go back to that brand, if not I have Freddy's High Impact Trainer and the High Impact pro trainer which I really like. My feet don't fall asleep at all. But everyone is different. Like me and everyone else you have to keep trying and see what is right for you. I brought a pair from Lady's foot locker tried them in the house and brought them back the next day. The lady said as long as you wear them in the house and you can return them, well I did. I wasn't going to waste alot of money like I did in the past. Good Luck:)

Deborah How come you can't take the shoes back?
Sue I would just keep trying them and bringing them back if they do not work well As long as you use them indoors it should not matter It is a pain to keep returning I go through this everytime I buy shoes Thankfully I am close to the mall and have lots of time during the week when most people are working I can shop!
Good luck
Lisa

Not laughing here, they only come in black in the regular trainer but in the high impact pro they come in white or black. If you are going to go with the high impact pro I would go with a 1/2 size smaller because they do run big.

Can't take them back because the store I bought them at has a no return policy on worn shoes--Army Air Force Exchange Services. I saved $15 off the regular retail price, I will be more picky next time!

RE: Try relacing

Hi All! I bought Ryka's XTR-GT Crosstrainer's a few months ago. I had to buy a 9 since the 8-8 1/2 were too short. The 9's felt loose in the heel and my heel would slide around. The lady who helped me at Lady Foot Locker showed me how to lace them so I could tighten the laces around the ankle area but keep the shoe looser around the toe and top of the foot. I'll try to explain how the shoes are laced:

Take the laces out of the top holes. Bring the lace straight up from the second hole to the top hole (don't criss-cross); you have a loop from the second hole to the first hole. Criss-cross the laces and bring the lace through the loop (i.e., bring the right side straight across to the left and under or through the loop) on the top of the shoe that you made in the first step. Put the shoe on and pull the laces straight out to the sides and tie.

The sales lady explained to me that runner's lace their shoes this way to prevent the heel from slipping but need the shoes longer to prevent the toes from hitting the end with the running motion. Pulling laces too tight around the foot will prevent sufficient blood flow and could result in the feet going to sleep. I've had my laces tied like this and the shoes feel great. They don't slip while doing step and they are very comfortable. I tried on the Iseum's but didn't like how they felt hitting right under the ankle. Try the above and see if that doesn't help. I love my XTR-GT's; much better than the Reebok's I was using!

Hope this helps! Take care!

RE: Try relacing

Funny you should mention these. I found the XTR-BTS last night. I'm seriously considering trying them.

As for the tying...I've seen that before. RoadRunner Sports has these great instructional inserts that they send with each set of shoes ordered. It gives various tying techniques for different problems. There's even a technique for my problem..high instep. I think this information is very valuable and am thrilled that I have it now. As a result of RRS insert I discovered the high-instep problem (I didn't know why in the world my left foot would go to sleep when I'd never had problems before--well, before dd#3).

Thanks for sharing that info!

WHOA! Deborah, you found them at AAFES???? Oh my gosh...never thought that they'd have "quality" in the way of crosstrainers. I may just head over there today!
Thanks for that idea (okay, a duh moment on my part).

I never thought I would find anything of that quality at AAFES either but I did. I wasn't even looking for anything in particular. Just browsing on my lunch hour one day & there they were!
