SHOCKING!!!

The talk about Cracker Barrell made me look up the nutritional facts of my favorite salad at Crispers, the Turkey Harvest Cobb. I almost fainted...over 800 calories WITHOUT the dressing. I knew it was a little bad so I always got it without the Blue Cheese but that probably only saved me a couple of hundred calories.

No wonder I'm never hungry the rest of the day!

Oh, it's clean all right. Turkey and raisins, and craisins, and pumkin seeds and spring mix greens...but man, too many calories. It's amazing what you can find out on the internet x(

Candi, I'm not familiar with this restaurant or salad, but I bet portion size has a big role in the amount of calories. Should you maybe stick to eating half the salad at a sitting and take the rest home for lunch the next day?

You know, Robin, I'm thinking that's the route I am going to take. The portion size is big. I've asked about a half portion but they don't do those like some restaurants do. I did see other salads on their menu that had half the amount of calories so I may venture out of my comfort zone and try one of them.

I guess I am still learning that it's better to be educated about what I eat than be in denial

Speaking of portions, we went to Ruby Tuesday last week and I was kidding our server about the recent bad publicity for their Colossal Burger. She told me that actually that burger is supposed to be a FOUR PERSON SERVING!!! And most of their entrees are supposed to be 2-person servings. Why doesn't their menu say something like that?! I know I know - when Americans go out to eat they don't want to be reminded of calorie and portion issues. Unbelievable.

Lorrie,

You probably know Ruby Tuesday did start adding the calories to their menu's a couple of years ago. I loved it because it helped me make an informed selection.

We were there the other day and the nutritional information was not on the menu anymore. We asked why they took it off and the answer was just what you said, the majority of their customers didn't want to know!

I remember a feeling of shock and dismay when I looked up the nutritional info for a couple of soups and sandwiches on Panera's website:eek: . Needless to say I don't go there anymore, besides, my homemade soups taste better anyway.

I always stick to the "classic cafe" salad with the dressing on the side and the vegetarian black bean soup. It not so much the calories the whopping amount of sodium they pack into their foods. Yikes!

If you really "want" to know what you are eating you can go to a lot of places websites & get the information on the food.

www.calorieking.com also has tons of information on it.

Be warned though, I hardly ever eat out anymore after seeing so many places that one item has more calories in it than I eat in a day! I am all about indulging every once in a while but a hamburger with over 1500 calories, no thank you!
