hello all :)

i'm a huge cathe fan and i lurk often, but don't post much. i've been using cathe's workouts for two years now, and i can't believe the difference in my body and my attitude! i also overhauled my eating, but i'm definitely in an eating rut. can i get some ideas for healthy snacks? i have my main meals covered with healthy, clean eating. but i'm tired of the same old-same old for snacks. i usually do apples or bananas and occasionally throw in a kashi bar for my midmorning snack. in the afternoons i'm home, so i stock up on carrots and other raw veggies. but i'd LOVE some variety! could you guys tell me what typical snacks are for you? thanks so much in advance!!

Hi Jenn :)

How about trying some different raw veggies like fennel, or sweet red peppers. Have you tried Hummus or Babaganoush to dip them in ?

I also like to keep Luna bars in my car in case I get delayed and hungry at the same time. The chocolate peppermint Luna bar is tasty and has a decentamount of protein.

Hi Jenn :)

Firstly, have you Checked In on the Roll Call thread? :D

Now, I agree about incorporating more vegetables into your daily snacks. I keep cut up cauliflower, carrots, broccoli and green/red/yellow/orange peppers in the fridge at all times. I personally love pea pods and eat them daily.

One thing about vegetables is...you can pretty much eat as much of them as you want because they are low in calories, low in sugar (except for carrots, high in sugar) and...full of nutrients that we all need, especially the fiber. So, snacking on vegetables will fill you up and keep you feeling full because of the fiber. Add a protein like a couple slices of cheese or a yogurt and you have a mini meal.

Other healthy snack ideas would be a piece of fruit with a protein such as cheese or nuts (almonds and pistachio's are my favorites). The protein helps to slow down the digestion of the fruit alone.

Or pea pods with a handful of nuts.

A roasted sweet potato, love those.

I really try to stay away from the protein/snack bars. I just prefer to get my nutrients from real food.

Oh, and don't forget a fruit smoothie using plain yogurt and you can also add a protein powder to that to again, make a mini meal.

I try to eat snacks like meals keeping in mind three things: protein, fiber, complex carbs.

I like to snack on broccoli sometimes and dip it into a zesty italian dressing. I also like dipping apples into the peanut butter jar. I like eating red grapes with cheese. Protein bars/shakes too. Yogurt mixed with trail mix (nuts a few m&m's).
