Hi all,
I just wanted to share my weird experience and let you know to be on the lookout for this. For the past few days I've been getting calls from 866-443-2946 and automated messages telling me that they are a debt collector and I need to call them back, along with a reference number. I have no outstanding debts, so I did some internet research and found out that they are the NCO financial systems group and are guilty of some very shady stuff. In fact, they've had to pay the largest penalty to the Federal Trade Commission in history. You can do a google search on them and find lots of info on their illegal practices.
Many people have had nightmare experiences with them. In my case, I think I've been lucky. I called back and the person I spoke to said that the call was for someone else who used to have my phone number (I recently changed numbers). She said she'd remove my number from the list. Hopefully the calls will end, but I've read about similar cases where the calls continue, as many as 100 per week. So I've got my fingers crossed that they really will leave me alone.
Anyway, for anyone else who gets a call from them, just be careful because from what I've read they can be pretty tough to deal with. Read up on how to deal with them and hopefully you won't have too much trouble.
