Like many of you I found out about Cathe on Fit TV. I just turned 45 and I am getting on the plump side. I ordered her step/body fusion and KPC cd. I have not done the Step since I have not purchased a step yet. I have tried the KPC about 3 times but my ankles and feet hurt so bad that I had to take a break. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
I am so excited about working out with Cathe. I have worked out with Joyce Vedral's weight lifting CD's but was disappointed with my results. I am sure it was due to too much food consumption and not enough cardio. So now I can mix it all up.

What does it mean when you refer to "Circut" I am not familar with that term.
Thanks

Patti,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Cathe. Sounds like you have literally jumped in with both feet, since you started with KP&C. This is a tough HIGH IMPACT workout. Your feet and ankles may not be used to the impact. Try to start slow and substitute low impact moves where possible and let your body work up to the high impact jumping. You can keep the intensity up by really concentrating on the upper body movements (really put some umpfh into your punches. I think this is a real key to getting an intense workout with KPC.

In my opinion, kickboxing requires a lot of strength in order to do the moves with correct form! So strength training is very important! Don't know much about Joyce Vedral, but Cathe has some great strength workouts that are very adaptable to your fitness level.

Also make sure you are wearing supportive and cushioned shoes! Do not try to do this workout directly on concrete or cement (like in the basement).

I don't have the Body Fusion dvd, but you mention taht you don't have a step yet. If you haven't done step aerobics before, do the workout without the step (just on the floor, like there was a pretend step there). This will also reduce the impact and allow your body to become used to the workout.

Circuit training generally refers to Cathes workouts which alternate cardio and weight segments. Cathe's circuit workouts vary quite a bit. Some have longer cardio segments then go into a short weight segment and some are just the opposite with short cardio and longer weights. There are usually anywhere from 4 to 8 cycles in a workout. These are great workouts for when you are trying to get both cardio and strength done in a day.

Best of Luck,

tina

Cathe, somewhere in my memory, actually suggested once that someone without a step actually put a towel on the floor, and use it for the step. I thought that was pretty clever, and a great way to learn the moves.

Patti, I'm not sure what your fitness level is, but KPC is one of Cathe's very advanced workouts. I agree with Tina that you may simply be attempting too much, too soon. Also, if you are weaker in the ankles, make sure you have a really good pair of aerobic or cross-training shoes, which provide strong ankle support. Be careful when you first start stepping; start with the 4 inch and gradually work your way up.

Have fun with your new workouts!
