Ripping a CD

SRP

Does anybody know how to do this, and what software it takes? I have a laptop with a CD/DVD player on it. I have some CDs that I want to copy, rip, or whatever it's called, so I can use them on an iPod. Thanks!

Shannon,

You must have a CD drive which is a burner (capable of writing/burning discs). Usually desktops/laptops come with copy/rip software installed. You do know that you can use ITunes to copy music from CDs to your Ipod... HTH a little...

If you want to put songs on an MP3 player, you need to use something like iTunes. It's free to download and free to transfer the music from CDs you already own onto your iPod and VERY easy to use. You can't do it without that type of software. Basically, you put the CD in your drive, while iTunes is open, and it will automatically start transferring the music or whatever it is into your iTunes library. Once it's in your iTunes library, you can copy it onto your mp3 player.

Just to clarify...you only need a cd reader to rip cds. This process does not require a burner.

From her original question, I thought she meant copying or burning CDs...through the progression of this thread, I realized she was talking about transferring CD music to her MP3 player. :)

Well, I don't actually have an MP3 player... but I guess it'll be my best bet for what I need to do. I can't believe I'm even thinking about buying one.... I'm always so incredibly far behind the times! :p

You don't necessarily need to have an Ipod. I downloaded all my cd's to Itunes long before I had an ipod. You just hit play and you have a whole homemade mix of music that will play right off of your computer! Plus, you can separate the music into "playlists". I have a playlist for everything--workout music, yoga, Christmas Music, Showtunes, etc. Itunes is soooo great!

Allison is right - you can use iTunes without an iPod - it's great stand-alone software for organizing your music!

Of course, if you use iTunes to rip all your CDs and then later decide to get an MP3 player, it will have to be an iPod, since I don't think other MP3 players are compatible with iTunes.

Well, for what I'm doing, I need some sort of MP3 player. I want to take music to the pool, so I can use it during water aerobics. But yeah, my brother plays music from his computer all the time.

Yep, I need waterproof. I've seen that one. Cool... but expensive. I've researched the little devils today, and I may decide to work out without music! I don't want to sink that much $$ into something I'm just going to use for a month. Seriously. I don't like things stuck in or on my ears. I don't even wear earrings. :7
