Reverse Osmosis Water Purification

Hello Everybody

Does anyone have a Reverse Osmosis Water Purification system?
I believe they make some different models; like whole house purification and some that mount at your kitchen sink. The one that mounts at the sink is the one I am thinking of installing for clean drinking water. They have their own faucet; but I'm wondering if they impede the water flow to your main faucet at the sink. Also,
how often do you have to change the filters?

We have a sink-side model and it's great! It was pretty easy to install (DH did the grunt work, but I supervised! ;) ) It doesn't have any affect on the flow of the regular faucet. On ours, the filter is supposed to be changed every 6 months. I don't have any complaints - it was a good purchase for us.

We just had a whole house system installed. From what I understand you can experience having your water pressure lowered. We have not had a problem though. We are using Culligan. We had the water softener removed and just left the other filter that works on odors and taste. Basically a carbon filter. We were told that the softener needs salt added about every 3 months depending on your water usage. We use a lot. I have since seen systems for the home than can be installed on your own. We were lucky and already had a water hook up and electrical along with a drain in our garage. If you went for someplace like this they would set you up.
