puzzle mat remnants

We completed a double layer of puzzle mats on the basement floor this week, and now have all the cut remnants that are left. I called our solid waste district and they are NOT recyclable. :( I called to local high school art / drama departments to see if they were interested -- they're not. :( I hate to throw them out because I cannot imagine them ever deteriorating. Any thoughts on what I could do with them? TIA

By 'remnants' do you mean full size pieces? I save all of mine so I can replace damaged pieces myself. I also use old or damaged ones around our litter boxes so the cats can sharpen their claws there instead of on the furniture. They LOVE those things! Oh, and I also use them for outside mats (for kneeling purposes if I'm working outside. :)

No, not full size pieces -- more like 8" wide. I did keep some aside for replacement and outside uses (apparently great minds think alike - HA :)) but these other cut pieces are much smaller. I do like the daycare idea - will give it a shot. Thanks!!
