Push up bars

Hi all

Does anyone use the regular push up bars? I can do pushups on my toes, and I'm wondering if this will give me an extra challenge. What do you think?

TIA,
Deanie

Yes, I use push up bars and push ups are more challenging that way.

But I don't think you NEED the bars though as you could just do a more challenging type of push up (such as a plyo pushup, one armed, slower count, etc) for increased difficulty.

I find that it makes it tougher because you have more range of motion, but they make it easier on the wrists.

Thanks guys, I think I may give them a try. I am doing the X and am able to do all the pushups (24+) except the clap pushups, I can only do 8 on my toes!! I need a challenge...

Hey Deanie! I've been using my 30# db's for the X+ as power stands, but really want to get Tony's power stands... it's on my list of things to get... ;-) I think it does help your range of motion although it tends to hurt my palms after a bit so I alternate.

great idea Jess, thanks! I will try my 30# db first! If I like it I can get the stands:)

Hi Deanie, if you are Xing and that push up fit, I'd go for the bars - you will get more out of your pushups. But don't get a cheap pair - there is so much crap on the market. My 1st pair was a cute blue squiggly pair from target and when I'd start to get fatigued, the bars got tobbly. I like one with a round base - like the one Tony uses looks great.

Modified Push Ups

Modified Push Ups -As I read your blog post, I couldn’t help but think of the Push Up Bench as the most effective way for people who struggle with push ups , to be able to do them correctly (with full range of motion). Most modified push ups make them easier but only allow one or two variations. The Push Up Bench has 11 different levels to work through on the way to a full push up. It also allows 10 levels of Decline Push Ups!

harmsllc, are you in any way involved with the Push Up Bench? Is this your company, do you work for them, etc?

Deanie,
If you want more challenging push-ups, try doing them with your hands on a med ball (or one hand on a med ball, if both is TOO challenging).

You could also elevate your feet to add intensity, pr raise one leg in the air as you do the push-ups.

Be careful about increasing range of motion if you use push-up bars, as it can put too much stress on the shoulder joint.

Kathryn,

I don't think you noticed that Deanie's post is 2-1/2 years old. So, is the last response before this thread got revived.
