PUB/PLB

I recently purchased these workouts and haven't done them yet  , but am planning to do them soon. Do you guys normally use these as is or do you do the pyramid up or down pre-mixes? If you do the premixes, which do you prefer the up or down?

Thanks,

Karin

Hi Karin.

I am in the minority in that I am not a huge fan of the Pyramids. For this reason I rarely do the full work out. I have done the premixes and find them much more to my liking. I like pyramid down the best and I start off super heavy!}(

Another vote for the premixes! A great way to mix it up. The only thing that gets annoying is with PLB having to keep changing the barbell weight. That can be a big PITA but it's still a great workout. I have to say I reach for others first though.

Thanks ladies! When I previewed this DVD I seriously almost died from boredom. I just couldn't imagine doing this as is. Maybe once I do it, it will be more tolerable, but glad to hear that I'm not the only one!

Karin,

Lots of folks really do LOVE doing the pyramids as is! It's a favorite of more than one Catheite...I guess Deb and I are just a couple of wierdos!;) :p

Maybe you'll enjoy the full work out though...you never know! It certainly tests your strength, that's for sure!!!}( }( }(

Hey, Karin...put my vote in for one that LOVES PUB/PLB. It was my very first Cathe weight workout, and I still use it as my go-to workout when I need an awesome weight workout. I've always done the workouts as-is, until yesterday. For the first time, I did the Pyramid Up only on the upper body and FRIED my arms. I don't know what it was, perhaps jumping from the heaviest weight for one muscle right into a different muscle. I don't know, but I sure am sore today. LOVE PUB/PLB!

Also, the time just seems to fly by. The sets are short yet effective due to the pyramid setup. If you're annoyed by changing the barbell, you can also use dumbbells and STILL get a great workout. I do that now and then just for a change.

I love PUB/PLB. They both give me major DOMS. When short on time or if I just want to add in some cardio at the end, I'll do the up only premix. Also the PUB/PLB combo gives a great complete body workout. I probably use this tape more than any other Cathe I own.

Another big fan of PLB/PUB! I even like the quick weight changes to the barbell on PUB. It's like a race to see if I can get it done before Cathe. (I know, I'm easily entertained.) :p

I like to change it up, do something different everyday, that way I don't get bored and my body never knows what to expect so I don't hit plateaus!

I use them 'as-is' most of the time, but I've used the premixes (the total body bonus workout, as well as the pyramid up or down). One thing I found with the pyramid up only is that once I got used to the full pyramid, it was hard to choose the right weight to make the pyramid up challenging, because I was so used to 2 more sets coming that I held back a bit).

Another variation is to use the pyramid where you go up in reps, but stay with the same weight (the one you'd usually use for the 12 reps). I've done that, after reading about some body builder suggesting it in Muscle and Fitness, and it works nicely.

One thing I always do with PLB is put more time between sets. Cathe and crew change their weights as fast as possible, which I don't feel is possible for me to do safely, so I just go at my own pace. That's the only gripe I have about this otherwise excellent workout: to much "rush-rush" to change weights.

I also put more time between sets on both PUB/PLB. For PLB I pause mostly to change weights. For PUB I need the rest. Whew, it's tough. I just finished PUB and my arms are shaking. I love it!!!
