Protein bullets

As I was laying in bed last night my mind suddenly wondered if there was such a thing as a protein pill. I was thinking how easy it would be to take without having to make a shake and you could just pop it with a meal. I was doing some searching and found out it would be to hard to make a pill small enough to contain enough protein. Then I came across protein bullets and liquid protein that people that have lap band surgery take. They are kind of expensive but was wondering if anyone has tried anything like this. I found one that bariatic patients take and you only take a couple of tablespoons at a time. I do like protein smoothies and shakes but just don't always take the time to make one like I should. There are a lot of mixed reviews about the bullets as far as taste. Some like them and others can't stand them. Say they taste like warm jello and are slimy. I think if I only had to take 2T at a time I could stand it.

I've seen protein pills, but they have very small amounts of protein.

Why do you feel you need so much protein anyway?

All the protein we need is in food (I don't think we'd have been made to not be able to get the nutrients we need from food).

I guess it is because I don't always eat the way I should. I have a sick husband I take care of and has to have everything done for him. Right now he is only wanting high fat foods which the doctor has ok'd as he is so thin. I still work full time and have no other help and can't cook separate meals all the time both time wise and money wise. I am rather stressed and have not much of an appatite lately so was just looking for a way to get some protein in my day, not that I am wanting to much. I am getting tired of the shakes and smoothies.

I'm sorry to hear about your DH.

Is there some way you can make a meal for the both of you, omitting some of the fattening stuff in your portion without having to make two separate meals ?

Remember that we can't take care of others as well if we don't take care of ourselves first (kind of like the "put your oxygen mask on before helping others with theirs" advice on airplanes).

Along with his COPD, aniexty, and stomach problems he only wants certain things. Veggies seem to give him more stomach distress and he only wants stuff like mac and cheese and fried chicken. He will hardly eat anything I fix that is healthy and he is so thin he hardly weighs 130lbs at 6ft. The doctor said anything he will eat is ok at this point, even when I said he will eat a whole bag of cheetos, the doctor said that is ok. The shakes and smoothies give him a lot of distress because of the air in them. COPD causes you to not be able to breath out all of the air you breath in. I do try to have my steele cut oats with flaxseed ground up and raisens or fruit in the mornings. It is just hard to come home on my lunch hour to fix him something he will eat and have the time to feed him and get back to work. He does drink Ensure sometimes. I sit it out for him and it takes him all day to get it down. After getting up at 4am and working till 4pm, I get home at about 5 as I have to stop at the store or pharmacy or something on the way home. I am just to tired to a whole lot of anything. I am no longer a spring chicken at 65. So I was just looking for an easier way to get some protein.

I've never tried the bullets either, but I wondered if you'd tried protein bars--those don't take any time to make and are easy to find (cheaper too I'd think).

Amy

Yes, I have tried the bars. Just looking for something different and lower in sugar and calories. I do have the Anywhey powder protein but just don't use it like I should. Guess I am just looking for an easier way and of course like anything else there is no easy way. Just have to try harder to eat right.

I was thinking about this.
The body needs protein, sure, but what you are probably missing out on more is vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients (and not the kind that come in pills).

Do you have a powerful blender? It just takes 10 minutes to put together a tasty and nutritous, 2-serving green drink (but it needs a powerful blender to get smooth). 80% fruits and 20% greens (kale, romaine, etc) is a good mix.

Some that turn out very nicely:
3 frozen bananas mixed with 3 stalks of celery, with water to thin.

1 frozen banana + handful of frozen berries + 3 leaves kale and a squeeze of lemon or lime (the lemon or lime cuts the 'green' flavor).
