Protein Breakfasts....

I'm looking for some quick protein sources for breakfast. I don't always have time to scramble up some egg whites in the mornings, and I dont care for them hard boiled either. I can do a protein shake some mornings or low fat cottage cheese, but I'm looking for some more "real" food ideas.

Also...what are some tasteless, low cal, low fat, protein powders I can add to my oatmeal? Is there such a thing?

Thanks!!

I would love to have some alternative protein breakfasts for my husband, who hates eggs but really would like to eat a nice protein-filled breakfast. He can't make it through the morning with only a protein shake.

Any ideas would be hugely appreciated. :)

It helps to remember that there aren't any "rules" to what breakfast is...it's just the first meal of your day.

As I've gotten older, I don't enjoy sweetly flavored foods as much in the mornings (almost feels like dessert). Often I'll have chicken and brown rice (that's been made prior so it's ready). I've also been known to roll chicken up in a warmed whole wheat tortilla and top it off with whatever suits me at the time. Later in the day I'll eat my yogurt or cereal as a snack.

Just a thought.

Practically every day I have a cup of nonfat cottage cheese w/ a cup of berries for breakfast, sprinkled w/ splenda and some ground flaxseed. YUMMY! Good balance between protein, carbs and fat. Mari

Who says it has to be breakfast foods? I sometimes will have leftover chicken breast, rinsed tuna with a few drops of liquid smoke for flavor. You can even make up a crustless quiche and eat portions of that in the morning.

A quickie traditional breakfast: Kashi cereal. 10g fiber and 9g protien for about 175 calories. Have it with milk or, better yet, soy milk for more protien. Or mix it in yogurt.

One of my favorites:

cereal with a RTD (ready-to-drink) protein shake instead of milk. I like Pure Protein (by WorldWide?). It's in a can and all you have to do is shake it up -- and pour it over the cereal. 35 grams of protein, 160 calories. You can get it any health-food stores/supplement stores. It's normally in the refrigerated section -- but not necessarily.

for mixing with oatmeal -- I like Lean Dessert Protein from BSN. The flavors are good and it mixes well compared to other protein powders.

Honest to gosh, I have turkey or ham wraps for breakfast. Portable, fast, not messy. Does the job. What law am I breaking if I have a sandwich for breakfast. None. Case closed. Looks like a lot of folks agree with me - lunch items for breakfast! Makes a lot more sense than donuts, right?

that's it you all.it does not have to be eggs every morning. How about whole wheat french toast with protein poweder, vanilla sprinkled in with the eggs and add some cinnamon. Honey and your good to go or the low fat syrup. BLT. but it's turkey bacon. Man is that good. I eat that even at 11 PM. You can freeze strips of bacon and when your ready, you pull them out and fry em up. Great and fast and the only issue with me is if the tomatoes gone bad, then I'm bumming. Those shakes will hold your husband,he has to belive it's enough. It' like pancake batter as it is. Make the quiche, add the swiss, add the spnach and mushrooms, oh ya baby. I've even had steak and eggs. protein all the way.

I add sliced almonds to just about all breakfast food: oatmeal, cereal, french toast, waffles, on top of wheat toast with peanut butter. I'm not a fan of non breakfast foods in the morning but for some reason I love breakfast for dinner.

OOOH yeah, breakfast for dinner is AWESOME!

I drag my DH out to a diner or an IHOP about once a week now that I'm pregnant! lol I guess it's a craving of mine these days...
