Postpartum check-in Week of June 13th

Cathlete
Hey there postpartum buddies! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It's showing it's face on/off here in MN. More off than on, but certainly nicer than Winter!
On Saturday I cut my hair off. Actually, a close college friend of miine (who's also a cosmetologist) cut my hair. We cut close to 11 inches off. A gal at my church did this & donated her hair to Locks of Love for chemo kids who don't have hair. I melted when I heard the story & wanted to contribute too. Now I have a short bob. It's so much easier to be physically active with short hair (I am planning on growing it back out though).
My week was more TaeBo Advanced Live (TBAL) and running. I'm really enjoying the running & change from Cathe.

Sun: TBAL8
Mon: 45min run
Tue: off
Wed: TBAL7 + I want those Abs
Thurs:45min run
Fri: off
Sat: 45min run

Hopefully everyone's healthy & healing. Lots and lots of ailments amongst my buddies here. :( Hopefully everyones better this week. :)

Hi everyone,
Melanie you'll have to send a before and after picture.
Its hard to believe but Ms. Alexis is now 9 months old. Due to being sick, Alexis went from 13.4 pounds to 12.8 at her 9 month check up. Wow, not much bigger than Bardric at birth. She measures 25 1/4 inches. Doctor says I should be giving her more table foods, Maggie what are you feeding Bardric? Alexis seems to have weaned herself, crying when I try to nurse her but loving her bottles of formula.
Beautiful weather here although still not reaching above 75. Oh yeah, Briee, glad my comment on marital conflict made you laugh.

Hi everyone!

1 finger typing here!

Shopaholic--I am still primarily nursing Bardric, but he loves to eat "people food" too. He'll chew on whatever we think is safe for him. We got this little high chair thingie that hooks right on to the table and he loves it. He is not gaining any weight, but is walking all over the place and constantly bumping into stuff and so he has a lot of bumps and bruises. Everything must be closed off--the bathroom (he loves the toilet--yuck!), the door to the stairs, the door to outside--ah the forbidden fruit--His cognitive development is nowhere near his gross motor skills and so I am a little nuts! How nice that Alexis has weaned herself--I have not had one of those yet--saves you from being the big meanie!

Melanie--that's a lot of hair--so are you going to donate it? My mother died of cancer 11 years ago and watching her lose her lovely thick red hair to chemo was very hard. Her wig was artificial and just not the same. Some days I think that a short bob would suit me fine (actually, some days I think shaving my entire head would suit me fine).

In general--had a mole biopsied to make sure it was not malignant (it wasn't), but my mom died of skin cancer, so the dermatologist just wanted to be sure. Also, I have plateaued on my weight loss again and I think there are two reasons for that--first, I am doing a Slow and Heavy rotation (and loving it by the way) second, my eating is not so good again, so I am trying to clean it up.

My workout week:
Wed--S&H Chest and Back
Thurs--The Gauntlet a la Aquajock (ommitted upper body lifting)
Fri--S&H Biceps and Triceps, HSAT cardio only premix
Sat--KPC
Sun--S&H Shoulders, Body Fusion cardio only (added intensity by adding lots of jumping)
Mon--unanticipated rest day--knees felt sore and I want to avoid injury--was supposed to do S&H legs and bike, but did neither
Today--REST

Well a big hello to everyone else
take care
Maggie

Maggie! I can't imagine you ever hitting a plateu with your regimen. Yes, I did donate my hair. It felt good to do something nice. :) I have some after photos that I sent to my mom. Hmmmmmmm. I didn't really take a before photo though. :)

Maggie, how big was Mr. B at his 9 month check up? What people food is Mr. B eating? So far Ms. Alexis will eat cheese, cheerios and saltines, I am trying to figure out what foods to introduce next.

Shopaholic--Our pediatrician does not do a 9 month check up, but we weighed him at home and he is still 21.5, which he has been at for quite a while, but then again he is very active and appears quite plump and healthy, so I am not worrying about it yet.

Today he nibbled at Lucky Charms (grandma bought them for the kids as a treat--I do not buy that stuff;-) ), Chex Mix (ditto on the grandma thing)and a few bites of key lime pie and some applesauce mixed with sweet potatoes. I should give him some cheese to see if he likes it.

Are you worried that Alexis is not gaining enough weight? You might want to talk to a pediatric diatician (spelling?)--but if your pediatrician is not worried, I would not be either. I've told you that one of our daughters was only 17 lbs at 18 months and totally developmentally normal, so our doctor was not worried.

When our Downs baby had all the difficulties eating, one of the things that was recommended as he started solids was to add a little bit of oil or butter to his food (about 1 Tbs spread throughout the day). This gave him a calorie boost without him having to eat a larger volume of food.

Bardric also likes soft fruit that is cut into small and maneagable bites. And overall he seems to want to taste whatever we are eating.
Do you have a happy baby food grinder? very handy--

Also, I am not very good at just introducing one food at a time like we are supposed to. I am lazy. I do avoid things I know can cause problems like strawberries and peanutbutter, etc.

sorry for the disjointed post--just jotting down thoughts as I think of them.

take care
Maggie

Melanie, adorable picture. He is getting so big.
Maggie, doctor is not concerned about Alexis's weight as she is only about 25 inches. She does eat quite a bit, I am just trying to get her to eat more big people food. She now likes wheat thins and cheese its, but cheerios remain the miraclwe food. My pediatrician stressed the need to get her eating finger foods because all of a sudden she said, she will refuse to be fed, there lies my worry. Weightwise, I was a kid with a great metabolism, sadly it changed when I hit about 12 and then had to watch everything I ate and almost ended up anorexic. On a side note, I am glad the olsen twin finally admitted to being anorexix.
