post partum exercise question for Sheila

Hi,
I keep hearing different opinions on postpartum exercise. My friend was told not to exercise at all until 6 weeks postpartum. I was told exercise was ok if kept low impact. I am 4 1/2 weeks postpartum and have been doing low impact step work and using light weights and doing post partum toning tapes. I am not bleeding and feel fine. What do you think?

Hello Shopaholic,

Medical advice does vary these days with regard to resuming exercise postpartum. Some still advocate the "six week rule," but others go on the "listen to your body rule." In my opinion, you are fine. If your bleeding had returned to bright red, that would be a red flag. That is not the case for you. Just listen to your body and you should be okay. Do those kegels!

Thanks for your response. I will continue my moderate workouts without worry until my 6 week check up and then resume my cathe workouts.
