Post partum check in?

Hi Shopaholic--count me in. Are you feeling better? I had the most post partum pain with my first child. And I was in really good shape at the time. It finally dawned on me why they call it labor:p .

I am feeling pretty good, mostly because I am getting way more sleep than I did while pregnant (I had terrible insomnia and was only getting between 2 and 4 hours a night for the last several weeks of pregnancy) Baby sleeps with us and wakes every 3-4 hours a night to feed and I just latch him on and go back to sleep.

I will weigh myself again tomorrow and take measurements (scary:eek: ), which I have not done yet. I will begin exercising Thursday as my bleeding has basically stopped.

take care,
Maggie

This is an awesome idea. Count me in...after the baby is born. Of course by then you two might already be the super rock hard babes... Seriously, it will be encouraging for pregnant women to be able to monitor your accomplishments too. Great idea!

Maggie, I figured you'd be in. Melanie you'll have to continue on the check in when we are no longer post partum. Hopefully by January my figure will be back we'll see. Maggie I can't believe your son was 10 pounds mine weighed only 6 lbs 19 oz at 2 week check up. Newborn clothes are huge on her. My mother in law bought Alexia a premie sweatsuit which still has room on her. She'll probably be like her mom, I am almost 5 feet. Alexis is now wide awake and computing with me. She likes nursing but eats like me, little bits all day long. At times I nurse her and 30 minutes later she wants more. She sleeps about 2 1/2 hours at a time at night but takes about about an hour to nurse at a time. I definely slept better when pregnant. Weighed myself today, weigh half a pound more than a few days ago, hopefully just fluid retention. We've been walking for the past 3 days to a local park about 1 mile away. Yesterday I added Denise Ausin's pregnancy plus workout-postpartum part and part of buns of steel postpartum. Day before i did Fit for 2 and first half of buns of steel postpartum.Feeling better, some soreness and some occasional bleeding but not much. Enough of my babbling.

Hi there,

Shopaholic, sounds like you are doing a lot better. My third baby was a snacker and that was difficult, because I felt like all I did was nurse.

I lost 1.5 lbs last week, which seems like a lot to me, because I don't usually lose weight this fast. Probably some of it is water weight:-( , but anyway 48.5 lbs to go (28.5 lbs., if my sweet husband who likes a "meatier" woman has his way;) ) My goal is to lose all my weight in a year. I also got on the stationary bike today and was able to do a lot more than I could in that last trimester. I can finally breath!!!

Melanie--I hope you (and others) join, when you have your baby.

By the way, when are we no longer considered "post partum"? After 5 kids you would think I would know this, but I don't and I am curious.

take care
Maggie
3 weeks post partum

Good question as to when you are no longer post partum. Maggie, how do you find the time to go on the computer, exercise and cope with 5 children including one special needs child? My hands are full with one. Its great that your husband likes you with some meat. My husband likes that perfect thin body look. I have slowly been unpacking my clothes, yes we're still unpacking and organizing from our move last month. Tops fit but bottoms are about a size too small. I am sick of wearing maternity clothes, at least some of my exercise bottoms fit.

I'm in! Well, guess what, I have a snacker too! I had no idea how time consuming nursing would be. But I definitely am not ready to give up.

Anyway, I gained 43 pounds during my pregnancy. However, I have no idea how much I currently weigh. (Don't own a scale - probably a good thing!) I'll find out next week at my check up. I know I've lost some because my face looks less fat - but the gut is still too mushy.

Okay, I must know: Will my hip/pelvic bones return back to their former places? I have several pricey pairs of pants that I will be quite bummed if I can't fit into eventually - and no amount of weightloss will make them fit if my bones don't realign.

I haven't started exercising yet. It has been 4 1/2 weeks. I was planning to wait the full 6 weeks. Maybe I will start sooner if my check up is okay.

Emy, So glad you've joined us. Its helpful to know you have a snacker too. Someone told me smaller babies snack more was yours on the smaller side/ Doctor recommended adding formula, I am going to hold off for now. At 4/2 weeks I'd recommend going back to exercise but not high impact cathe. I am waiting for my 6 week to resume my preprego exercises. Alexis is crying, must be snack time. Gotta go.

Shopaholic, I didn't think of that. My baby was 6 lbs. 13 oz., which is somewhat on the smaller side, so maybe it's true. And hopefully that also means that when he "catches up", the feeding schedule will become less frequent! I hope! He has gained almost one pound per week in the past 2 weeks.
I think I will try to add in some easy exercises and walking. I am seeing that it will be tough. My baby has been eating and crying all morning.

I think this is a great idea. It will definitely motivate me to get back on track postprego.

Here's hoping that I can check in soooooon!!! I have 2 months, 2 weeks and 3 days to go, of course babies are rarely born on their due date (but my last one was!!).

Briee

Emy,
Walking should be perfect for you. Even when crying a walk calms Alexis down. I am wondering if the small baby more nursing theory is true as your baby was born similar in size to mine.

Hi everyone,

Shopaholic, in some ways, 5 kids is easier for me than one or two, because the older ones are very helpful. Going from one child to two was the most difficult adjustment, because I had a toddler and a baby at the same time. Now I have a baby and a toddler, but 3 big kids who do a number of chores I no longer have to do, such as dishes, folding and sorting laundry, mopping, cleaning the bathroom (I admit that "9 year old boy clean" is not as sparkling as it could be, but atleast I don't have to do it all the time anymore:) ). They also can snuggle the baby or entertain the toddler. Going from no children to one child was also difficult, because being so responsible for someone else's life was really foreign to me. Also, I never get everything done in a day that I could:p , but I am determined to find time to exercise and a little computer time each day is a sort of a treat.

Welcome aboard Emy. I am not sure if the hip bones go back or not. It might depend on the woman. I have several friends who are very tiny even after children, then there is me...even if I do lose the weight, I think my hips are permenantly wider:-(.

Briee and Melanie and others--we look forward to having you on board!

take care everyone
Maggie

PS. Mr. Bardric smiled at us this week. Those tiny baby smiles are sooo cute. Just want to gobble him up:9

I wasn't sure whether to start a new post or not to add last week. My energy is getting better and every day except yesterdat alexis and
i walked to the local park about 1 mile each way. It puts Alexis to sleep and its great for me since I relocated while pregnant and have no local friends yet. So she sleeps at the park and I talk to other moms. I also have been doing buns of steel post partum tape . I think I did it twice last week. It is more challenging than i thought it would be. Yesterday was rainy so first we did mall aerobics, ok so Alexis slept and mom pushed stroller from store to store buying baby clothes. Is shopping exercise? Later in the day Alexis was still sleeping so I did firm max. cardio burn with very low weights as my doc said don't lift heavier than the baby. Skipped the Abs and replaced with toning from Denise Austin pregnancy plus after baby section. If Alexis doesn't wake up and I get myself off this computer I'll do buns of steel tape. Weight continues to flexuate saying I have between 5 and 6 1/2 pounds to go, wonder how much is boob? As my A cups are now full C's especially in between feedings. Alexis decided to be wide awake from 5-7 sreaming this morning but she'll probably sleep most of the day waking up for her feedings and time in her swing. Enough babbling by me, how's everone else? Oh yeah, alexis is now 3 weeks 2 days old, wow the time flies.

Hi everyone,
Well, I am depressed because I only lost .5 lbs last week. I knew that the 1.5 of the week before was too good to be true;( . How much is boob? Good question. Mine are huge--a typical post partum thing for me, but wierd because I am not normally this big. It always takes some getting used to.

This last week I decided to start with a very easy week--mostly wedding video with no step and no jumping, wedding video weights and stationary biking. It felt very good, so I am going to do more starting Thursday.

Oh the babies grow so fast. Bardric is 4 weeks old today and weighs around 12.5 lbs. (Hubby weighed himself and then weighed himself holding the baby and subtracted--not the most accurate, but gives us an estimate). He isn't really a roly poly baby, just thick, like a little football player or something.

Take care everyone!
Maggie

Hi, Where is everyone? I love hearing how other moms are doing. My weight remains the same with about 5 pounds to go. I really believe at least one pound is boob since my A cups are now whering c cups. Alexis is sleeping more at night, up to 4 hours at a stretch, unfortunately now I am so used to waking every 2 hours, that my body is automatically waking. Alexis now how baby acne, it pains me to see her beautiful little face covered with blots, oh well, at least she is healthy. Every day this week we have walked to the park, I finally measured it and it is 1.6 miles each way and we walk about 1 mile at the park. Every other day I have added moderate toning. Yesterday I did Buns of Steel postpartum and 2 other days I did pumping rubber with the exertube . I liked this tape for postpartum use since it is short, worked each muscle, although briefly and didn't use weights. I am waiting for my 6 week check up to use my heavy weights. Today is cloudy so i think I'll do firm max. cardio plus abs minus the abs and with very light weights. I am only doing abs on postpartum tapes til my check up. Its hard to believe Alexis is 1 month old today. Wow it does go quick. She is still little probably weighing only about 7 pounds or less still. I am waiting to get return to slender in the mail through a trade. Hopefully I can try that tape tomorrow.

I have been incredibly busy and have not had as much time on the computer as usual. By Friday night, my mind has simply shut down from trying to get everything done.

Bardric has the infant acne thing too, but they all got it at this age for about 3 weeks. He weighs over 12 lbs. It would be fun to see him and wee little Alexis side by side.

Shopaholic--Wow! You are walking about 4.2 miles a day. That is good. I did a lot of walking when I just had one. Now with 5, it is too much of a production and since the only vids I have are Cathe (and tae bo), I have just sort of started in on that--with alittle less weight, 4" step, and very little jumping. My muscles are a little sore, but other than I feel pretty good. My weight is not coming off as quickly as I would like, but I will stay the course and keep trying.

Well, take care everyone. Hope to hear from more post partum moms, too

Maggie
2lbs down:), 48 to gox(

I have a stupid question...
Would I consider myself 14 months post-partum even though I'm 32 weeks into my current pregnancy?? Or is just being PG completely VOID me from the tern post-partum?
Sorry, I'm just a little ignorant...
Myra:+

Myra, consider yourself any way you want, pregnant and post partum. Reading your other post you sure have your hands full. My advice to you is keep up your sense of humor and do small bits of exercise when you have time and use your supports. Good luck, if you want to post here and on pregnancy posts you are more than welcome.

I definately want to joing the post partum check in group. Dylan was born 2 1/2 weeks ago (I just posted my birthing story). I gained 44 lbs and have already lost 20. 24 to go! I am off work until Jan 5th and I hope to have 10lbs or less to go by that time. Hopefully thats not unrealistic. I have started walking and would love to do upper body weights (very light). Is it too soon?

Debbie,
Congrats, and what a nice easy birth story. I am glad you will be joining us. I will start a new thread since this one is getting long. My daughter was born 12 days before your son and I started using light weights last week( only minimal weight work with 5 pounders) I started using exertube as well which I feel helps keep the muscle tone. ) Personally I am holding off on real weight work until my 6 week checkup.
