Post partum check in week of 10/5/03

shopaholic

Cathlete
I thought I'd start a new thread since last one was getting long. I figured we can post here about last week or this week. Well, sat. I walked to a local festival about 1 1/2 miles each way. My plan was to do return to slender yesterday . Unfortunately sat. night I woke up with chills and breast killing. Felt awful and was in bed all day yesterday and finally felt human around midnight last night. Finally had on call doctor call me in antiobiotic last night for breast infection. I've taken it easy to day but may take a short walk with alexis after she wakes up and is nursed.

Not postpartum yet, but your breast infection sounds painful. Luckily, you should get some relief from the antibiotic within 24 hrs. This postpartum check-in sounds so wonderful. Can't wait!

Tick tock...

I can't WAIT until I can check in with you. I'm starting my 38th week and I've about HAD IT with pregnancy. I know, I know...I'm in the homestretch, but I am so uncomfortable and cranky. My first born son is 20 months and he is wearing me out! I realize I should be counting my blessings and just getting some sleep, but it's so hard to get any rest at this point.

Sorry to hear about the breast infection. Hope it goes away soon.

Have you done the Return to Slender video yet? I have it waiting for me. Have you found it to be helpful? I've exercised throughout this pregnancy, but found that I'm really starting to slow down. I can't wait to start really moving again.

RE: Tick tock...

You are almost there. I give you credit still working out pregnant with a 20 month old. Hang in there, but this forum is the place to vent. I have watched parts of return to slender and it was informative. Step section seems a bit to easy but toning looks good. I wish I had this video pregnant, step section actually looks good for a pregnancy workout. My favorite postpartum workout tape has suprisingly been buns of steel postpartum. I lucked out and found this one in a thrift store, it is suprisingly good, abs, buns,legs-floorwork and lunges and squats. I am feeling much better although my breast remains sore. I actually did my walk today with alexis and did cardio fx minus ab section and felt energetic despite my limited sleep. Alexis, maybe due to infection isn't sleeping much. Keep us posted and before you know it your bundle of joy(or bundle of tears and poop realistically, haha) will soon be here.

RE: Tick tock...

Hi everyone,

I have been so busy that I have not had much time to spend here. I can sympathize with the woman who posted about having kiddos close together. My Down syndrome 2 year old is more like 14-18 months (depending) and all of a sudden he is into everything! Very busy and satisfied with little that made him happy before. I am very greatful for the older siblings, who help out a lot right now.

My workout week(s)
Oct. 5-wedding video cardio 4" step, no jumping
Oct. 6-wedding video weights
Oct. 7-25 min stationary bike
Oct. 8-REST
Oct. 9-Leaner Legs-no weight
Oct. 10-CTX upper body-less weight than normal
Oct. 11-Power Max-4" step, very little jumping

I lost another 1.5 lbs this week to my surprise, since the week before was not so good, but I am sooo fat. It is my fault. I gave into fear and ate my way through my fourth pregnancy and so started this last pregnancy 30 lbs overweight, so now begins the long journey of taking it off again.

Hang in there letswork! Oh that last bit of preganancy is sooo hard. It always feels like the baby is never going to come and pregancy is going to last forever. Time just drags...But it will happen soon and then time just flies. I cannot believe that 5 weeks ago today I came home from the hospital.

Shopaholic, I got terrible breat infections with my daughters for some reason. The first time I did not know what was wrong and waited a long time before calling the Dr. I was in terrible pain and had a dreadful fever. I had know idea that the two were even connected. Antibiotics cleared it right up.

Take care everyone!
Maggie
3.5 lbs down and 46.5 to go (since 2 weeks post partum)

RE: Tick tock...

Shopaholic...there is no one who can sympathise more with you than I can....I get breast infections like at least one per week when I'm nursing. They are worse than ANY flu I have EVER had and if one hasn't gone through them....they don't know what "wanting to die" is. I'm hoping to wean really early this time so I can avoid dealing with this. (this is tough for me to even write...I nursed the others for about 2 1/2 to 3 years each). I just have to realize my limitations in this area and early weaning is going to have to happen or I'll be wiped out. Last time I dropped to 97 pounds after several infections in a row and I've even passed out shaking from the infections, I'm not looking forward to the post birth this time, but a dear physicians assistant that I found is going to try to help me get through this period of time. ANYWAY.....just to let you know I'm praying for you and hope that your getting better....remember to lay low and don't do ANYTHING if possible, rest, rest, rest, (I know hard to do with a newborn :) :) :) ).

RE: Tick tock...

Briee, thanks for your response. Fortunately, the next day I felt better. I talked to my friend who does breast feeding consulting, she said maybe my bra was pinching. I stopped wearing underwire nursing bras , and hopefully this will help. Hopefully this time around you won't get any infections. Yeah, they stink.

RE: Tick tock...

You guys! You are scaring me about breast feeding!!!!! I don't remember having any problems with my first one. I've even been daydreaming about nursing my little one, all nestled up against me. I hope I have an easy time like I did the first time. I'm only planning on breastfeeding for 6-9 weeks.

infection

Hey everyone, We just got over a yeast infection. I had it on my nipples and Max had it on his mouth. Don't know who gave it to who, but a friend said it could be caused by not changing nursing pads between feedings. I use disposable ones, and have started changing them more frequently. She said that the washable ones are more likely to spread it. This infection made it hurt to nurse, but we are better now after topical medication.

Can't remember what workouts I did the week of the 5th, but last week I got in 3 workouts. That is my goal for now - 3 workouts per week.

Mon 13th- Boot Camp
Wed 15th- Boot Camp
Sat 18th- Imax 2

This was my first time doing Imax 2 (other than just the cardio portions) since receiving it in January. It was so fun, yet so hard. I will admit that it made my general pelvic region sore the next day, so I will probably have to gradually work it in. I suppose I am risking injury by doing high impact too soon. I am 7 weeks postpartum, I have about 15 pounds to lose, and have never been this heavy in my life, so I am anxious to get it off! I know I should take it slow.

RE: Tick tock...

Melanie.....didn't mean to scare you!!!! My situation is extremely rare. In fact, I have been to numerous doctor's and talked to la lache and nursing consultants across the country who couldn't remedy my infections until this physician's assistant found out I produce WAY too much prolactin. We eventually had to use Bromocriptine (a very strong drug) to block the perception of prolactin to my brain which FINALLY halted my mass milk production. (and even when I discontinued this my milk production went back up after not having nursed the baby for over a month). I used to be able to nurse the baby and then pump 17 ounces.

Your nursing experience will be wonderful and almost all are and it's so much better for baby, I wish like anything mine could be better but there is some purpose in all this. :) :) :) Again....DO NOT BASE NURSING UPON MY EXPERIENCE...it's a very rare one!! Nurse that baby melanie!!!

RE: Tick tock...

Don't be scared! I agree with everyone else--nurse that baby. Lots of healthy stuff in your milk for your little one and a wonderful and tender bonding experience.

take care

RE: Tick tock...

I'll nurse, I wouldn't miss it for the world. However, if it becomes painful & I get infections, I"m not sure I'd be able to continue with it. You guys are so strong!

RE: Tick tock...

Briee, thanks for your info. If I get another infection, i am going to do some more investigating as to the cause.
