Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/21

Hi Ladies,

My spinnig class went well, I was not tired as I was on Tuesday. Training with Keving today and walking.

I hope we have a sunny weekend, I want to go to the beach and lay out and read my books.

Garance, Your vacation sounds great. I love doing the same things that you do while on vacation.

Deb, Sorry to hear about Kelsey. I have to do the same with Astro when I take him to the vet. Once we get in the room, he is ok. He loves his vet. She is Quincy Jones daughter.

Joan, Are you babysitting this weeked? I told my dil to bring my oldest gs for the 4th of July weekedn. We can usually see the fireworks from my house.

Hi Cathy and Linny.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did disk 33 for chest, bis, and tris (59 min.). So I am doing 37 lbs for the barbell press overhead for shoulders and for barbell curls for bis. For tris, it's 16 lbs, but for some weird reason on the crossbody kickbacks, my right triceps is too weak for this. For incline curls, it's 16 lbs dumbbell (15 lb. plus my weighted glove). For shoulders I use 13 lbs for each arm on both the side raises and delts.

Deb, I am so sorry about Kelsey! I have a friend in Minnesota (St. Paul) who is a vet and they do house calls for patients like Kelsey. I wonder if any veterinary practices in Buffalo might offer this type of service. It would be a real boon for you. Our neighbor takes care of the animals while we are away. He has a big horse stable but swears he prefers cows to horses. The pigs are really easy to care for because they have an enormous space back in the woods and just need their feeder filled up periodically. They will miss the garbage, though. Next week it's "curtains" for the chickens. They will be just the right weight for DH to take up to Vermont for -- well, you know! We have family friends who own a summer house a block away from the beach and they let us have it for nothing every year. If we did not have that, we would definitely rent a house. Lots of rentals in Avalon and Stone Harbor. We always have one big night out in Cape May, too (a great restaurant called the Mad Batter), and there is this lovely shop where we buy dazzling Christmas ornaments--2 or three for us and some as gifts.

Sounds like it's hot for both Cathy and Joan. It's now 80 degrees, and they are talking mid-80s today and tomorrow. It feels great after the crappy weather we have had--some kind of stalled front off the coast.

Hi to Josie! I will be having my 3rd colonoscopy this September. No longer find it daunting.

Good afternoon,

Wednesday was a cardio day-treadmill.

Deb I did disc 16 and 18 on same day and then did disc 17. Today will be disc 19. I don't need to use because it is more expensive but we have a mobile vet office available here. I'm so sorry about Kelsey.

My knees were better after disc 17 legs but I reduced weight and only did static lunges. I still think I will need to add floor exercises with this.

Garance How is the book coming along?

Josie We have a wedding to go to on July 4th so no babysitting.

Joan

well, it was 103 today, uugghhh! a teeny, tiny storm came thru and the temp dropped to 88, we didn't get very much rain, but at least it cooled off for a bit. but, it will be back in the 100's tomorrow.:( ick!!!

i am very thankful to have AC. VERY!
did the firm's ultimate calorie blast today and used the 8" box for the step work, and 2lb. weight gloves. it was hard!!

TGIF

Morning all,

I did not exercise this morning, slept in after a pretty tiring day yesterday. Kelsey has her leg in a sling, basically taped to the inside of her chest..hard to envision, but she is completley on 3 legs only, the one is imobile. She can get around a little, hopefully she will become more skilled at it. Of course she has to be carried up and down stairs, but that is nothing really.

I am taking the day off to monitor Kelsey and make sure she is ok on her own. It is hot and very muggy here today. I hope the sun comes out and burns off some of this humidity.

Josie, Reading on the beach sounds so relaxing...any good books to recommend?

Garance, I wish we had vets here that did house calls. There is one out in the country area, she is a holistic vet. I would not mind that part, but I really like the vet that we have. He is kind of half holistic and half traditional. He is very good with diagnosing, and has not steered us wrong yet in any of their treatments. I like that he takes a conservative approach and will start with minimal treatment, before doing all kinds of tests and experimenting before really knowing what is going on. Poor little chicks! At least you will have fresh chicken all fall and winter this way.

Joan, I modify some of STS too. I have not upped my weight on the deadlifts at all. I got to 35 pounds, then stopped because I don;t want to have a back issue.

Cathy, Wow! 103 degrees. It is dry there though? I was in Las Vegas when it was 112, but no humidity. it felt like I was a cake baking in an oven! hot but bearable in some strange way! Sounds like you are strolling down memory lane with the old Firm tapes!

Have a good day!

Happy Friday Ladies,

No wo for me today. I have lost another pound I'm at 168 but look thiner that that.
Tomorrow it will be circuit training with Kevin and then spinning. Sunday it will be spinning for one hour.

I might go dancing tomorrow to the Conga Room. I have not told my DH yet. I don't feel like working today, but I'm here, so I guess I have to do it.

Deb, My vet is a holistic vet and it is great! Astro is doing well with her.

Hi to Garance, Linny, Joan and Cathy.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Cathy, and Joan--

This morning I did 4 fast miles with Leslie (50 min.), with my weighted vest on.

So sorry about Kelsey, Deb! She has had a tough year with the ACL, the thyroid, and now this. It is very muggy here as well. DH finally got some hay in yesterday, but today more rain predicted. On the other hand, I am enjoying wearing sundresses.

Joan, I finished the chapter on critical reception before and after Birthday Letters and the impact of personal archival material at Emory and the British Library yesterday. I am still not happy with the abrupt way it ends, but I will go back later and do some tinkering. Today I am taking a break and working on the food and Plath piece--much lighter work.

Tomorrow I am off with my friends to Jacob's Pillow to watch Mujeres (two women flamenco dancers). There will be live music, and I really love the kind of whiney voices and clapping that go with the flamenco guitar. Also love the dresses whipping around.

Cathy, just curious, what months of the year are comfortable for you down there in Texas? We used to have a poster from Houston, Jen, and she complained about the swampy humidity and heat.

Hi to Josie--go shake that booty in the Conga room, girl!

Good evening,

I did get disc 19 in yesterday but nothing yet today.

I've been busy with work and babysat this morning so don't know what I will get done today.

It's been a month since Linny posted. Is this usual?

Joan

Saturday

Hi all,

No workout today. I am hoping to get some weeding done while the sun is still shining. It is hard to have both dogs out there, since Kelsey is in such a precarious state, we would have to tie Keegan up and DH doesn't want to do that. He said we will spend more time untangling him from around chairs etc.

Josie, yay for dancing! That is a workout in itself.

Garance, Sounds like you are doing well with your writing....I think I am channeling Kelsey's depression or something...I don;t feel like doing anything but sleeping or reading. she won;t do anything, but how can I blame her when she has to do it on 3 legs.....Funny you brought up Jen...I think about her every once in a while and wonder how she is doing. She had that horrible elevator accident, and all the job problems afterwards..I wonder if she still checks in to the site.

Joan, Linny has never stayed away this long before. I hope everything is ok with her... just hoping she is too busy putting that new kitchen in order.

Cathy, what are you up to this weekend?

Have a good day..
