Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/31

Hi girls,

I did 5 miles on treadmill today.

Josie, I wonder if you were to make up a list of 4-5 breakfasts all between 350-400 calories and 5-7 lunches about 400 calories and snacks 100-150 calories and just eat one of each of them every day. That way you would only really have to count calories for dinner. OR I have found I really have to aim for 1200 calories to end up with 1500 calories average. If I'm going to always have 1 or 2 larger calorie days I need to have several low days.
Unfortunately I know how to stay the same better than how to lose. It really takes planning to cut out that last 100-200 calories a day and not feel hungry.

it's Thursday Ladies!

Good Morning!

I just finished STS # 21, Back & Biceps. 59 minutes, 306 calories.

I am so looking forward to this weekend...no big exciting plans or anything, just no work!

Joan, Yay for Meso 2..you will really like this one. Your idea on making those lists of certain calorie meals is what I used to do when I was actually eating better. That takes away all the counting etc. Also, with planned meals you are less likely to eat mindlessly, which is my downfall.

Josie, it sounds like you are really enjoying the work with the trainer. I have been thinking of signing up for an on line nutrition councelor, but am mad because I should be able to do it myself, not have to pay someone, I guess the whole thing behind getting this help is that it gives people the motivation.

Garance, I am going to have DH pick up some of that Tabasco...sounds ineresting, even by itself. Those cutlets made me hungry! Your way of losing or maintaining is the best, if you have the will power to not eat a large portion. I usually eat the same amount as DH and that is why I gain.

Linny, I hope all is going well with you.

Cathy, what are you up to today?

Have a good day!

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did disk 27 again for bis, tris, sh (67 min.).

I did get all of my new stuff on Tuesday (weighted vest, which DH says makes me look like a skydiver), weighted gloves, and just plain weightlifting gloves. So I am ready to add those extra 10 lbs on the legs, and the extra 5 percent on the next two weeks of meso 3.

Beautiful here today--70 degrees and sunny. Finally, I am going to buy some hanging plants.

That sounds like an excellent idea, Joan, for planning two of your meals.

Deb, maybe a nutrition counselor will really help. I have never tried one, but I have a colleague who radically altered his diet with the help of a nutritionist and lost weight, lowered his blood pressure, and lowered his cholesterol. Sometimes it just takes an expert to shake things up.

I think I will play hooky this afternoon and go cruising in the plant nurseries for some hanging plants.

WOW!!!! i did IMAX2! thought i was gonna die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. what a super workout. VERY TOUGH!! is cathe just insane??? i don't think she is real. i think she is the new bionic woman.
cathy

Good evening all,

Cathy I guess this was a good day if you could do Imax.

I mowed grass and did 3 miles on treadmill.

I'm covered with poison ivy from working in yard early this week. I thought I had sprayed it all but I must have touched something. I haven't been able to get rid of it all because it is spread from a neighbors yard. This neighbor thinks her yard should be all natural but when 50% of all plants in her yard are poison ivy I don't agree. I lean over the fence as far as I can and spray. She actually lives behind the neighbor's yard I mow.

Finally Friday!

Good Morning,

Another bad night of sleep, so no workout. I need to figure out what is going on. Got a hair cut last night, not too happy with the way she did my bangs...ugh...

Today is National Donut Day....must be a Hallmark card for it somewhere:rolleyes:

Garance, I have this visual of you with all your "added weight stuff on" taking off :D like an astronaut! Have fun brousing the nurseries.

Cathy, Yes, Imax 2 is insane. that is why I sold it on Ebay!

Joan,...can you report that neighbor to someone? Just say you are worried about kids etc getting in there...jeeze some people are too much..

Off to get more coffee...anyone have fun plans for this weekend?

Have a good day!

Good Morning,

Deb Sorry about the haircut. Why is it so hard to get a consistently good haircut? I hope you find out why you can't sleep. Neighbor has a completely fenced yard, that's why I can only kill part of poison ivy. She keeps grass cut, so building inspectors probably wouldn't say anything. I saw the donut day too. Really made me want to go buy one. They are my weakness along with anything else sweet.

Tomorrow is ds birthday. I am making him chicken and noodles tonight, his favorite. Today is dil and ds anniversary but they will celebrate that tomorrow.

I've babysat twice this week but only for a few hours.

Back later with wo.

Hi Ladies and happy Friday,

My workout went well yesterday. Kevin made me go through the circuit 4 times, I guess he realized that I'm stronger than I look. He asked me if I was sore from Tuesday and I told him no, so he took care of that. I slept great last night, I guess I was tired from the wo.

Tomorrow I will be walking for 1 hour before my training and Sunday I will be spinning.

Deb, I have a dentist appointment this weekend and it will not be fun. He told me I need a crown on a molar.

Garance, I'm going to make the relish this weekend and maybe the cutlets.

Linny, Where areyou? I hope that everything is ok with you.

Joan, I told my dil that I would pick up the kids next weekend, so I need to get my rest this weekend.

Cathy, I have never tried IMAX2. I usually just stick with the weight videos.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did 4 fast miles with Leslie (58 min.). This is the one aka "Cackle and Shriek" because Leslie is really screechy.

Wow, Joan, I go crazy with itching on poison ivy. I had to throw out a pair of sandals because I could not get the residue off of the straps and I would break out with a rash when I put them on. Finally gave up.

So sorry Deb about the sleep. Is it hot flashes that wake you, or is it insomnia? Maybe you should try some medication to help. I did buy a couple of beautiful hanging plants. My wisteria is going crazy this year--tons of blossoms. But things are growing slowly here because it's still pretty cool.

Cathy, when the Intensity Series first came out, I did it for a solid 7 months, and I did IMax 2 once every week. That was when I still felt okay with the impact. It's a great workout, but the real killer, in my estimate is IMax 3. Maybe I had aged beyond it, but I just plain could not do it without gasping when I first got it, so I never mastered it the way I did IMax 2.

Josie:

If you make the cutlets, you need to salt 1-inch slices of eggplant on both sides, let them sit for 30 minutes, rinse, pat dry, and then roast on 400 degree oven for 30 min. on a pan with 3 Tbsp olive oil. Lidia says to remove 1-inch wide strips of the outside peel on a 1 1/4 lb eggplant before salting and roasting. I usually do this in the morning so the eggplant is ready for layering when I cook in the evening. On the sauce: saute 4-5 whole, peeled garlic cloves in 1Tbsp butter and 1Tbsp olive oil until nice and brown, mash them a bit and pour in 1/2 cup white wine and let it boil down, add 3/4 cup chicken broth and 1/2 C. of chopped Italian tomatoes from a can. layer the sauteed cutlets (with the sage leaves and prosciutto), top with eggplant, which you can tear apart--nice and soft--then thin slices of fontina and pour the sauce over. 10 min. in a 450 degree oven.

This is graduation weekend, so a reception for senior English majors this afternoon. Other than that, no festive plans. I am not going to graduation this year. I have been to so many that it's getting kind of old. For many years I just loved getting all dressed up in my U. of Chicago regalia--really cute velvet hats and puffy sleeves on my mauve gown. But now I am bored with it--especially the commencement speeches which all sound the same.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! (Where are you, Linny?)

LOL! you guessed right there, joan! and before that, i rode for about 4 hrs. thursday morn. so, see what i mean? most of the days are great, but, the few that are bad are just really bad.

today, my grandkids came over and we rode this morning, took a short nap , and then went swimming this afternoon. so, i didn't do a workout, but i think i worked. :)

wow, garance, don't know if i could do it every week. i can do imax3, but it is killer, that is for sure. what were your results from the intensity series?
cathy

fox2star,, hmm, i am glad to know that i am not the only one that has a hard time w/cathe. and, i HATE to admit i can't do a workout. although, so far i can still do them, but they are hard. but, i have not orderd STS cardio, don't know if i could do it. did ya'll order it?
cathy

Good evening,

Just finished 3 miles on treadmill. I always even hate to think how long it takes me to walk that but I am getting faster.

I didn't do too bad with the chicken and noodles but the strawberry-rhubarb pie did me in.

I did hit over 2400 calories burned for 2 days in a row. Unfortunately I haven't calculated how many I ate today. I may need to get back on the treadmill.

I have ordered sts cardio for the variety. I modify almost all cardio dvd's. I only use a low step(some days no step at all). If movement not something I think I should do I just use one of the four Leslie Sansone moves.

Saturday

Good Morning all,

I am off to work at our dog club's Agility Trial today. it will be a very long day. No workout, bad sleep again, and a headache. I am blaming my horrible eating habits. nuff said..

Josie, good luck at the dentist.

Joan, I gave in to the weakness and celebrated the National holiday yesterday...grrr..that is what I mean by bad habits. You should really try the I-Treads...they are interval type workouts, so you don;t measure by mileage. I bet you would burn a lot of calories with them..needs a CD player near the treadmill, or MP3 player ( I-Pod)..

Garance, that recipe sounds wonderful. I do not have the energy or patience to make something like that. Like we have all said many time, I wish I lived closer to you! What wakes me up are not actually full blown hot flashes any more, just feeling like I am too hot for whatever covers I have on..not like the terrible night sweats etc that I used to get.. like I said above, I think it has to do with what I eat. I can't imagine going to a graduation ceremony every year!...I fully understand why you would want to skip it.

Cathy, I assume you have horses? I must have missed that somewhere along the line...isn't that good exercise? I did not order STS cardio. I am not a fan of most of Cathe's cardio, don;t like step, so it was not for me.

Have a great day!

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning was Housemax and sleep-in day. Ahhh!

Deb, I, too, used to have horrible night sweats. They are finally a thing of the past, but I do remember going through a period of throwing covers off, then pulling them back on over an over. I hope this happens for you as well. You might want to try Tylenol PM.

Cathy, the Intensity series was really the best shape I had ever been in. I just did those 6 routines over and over. I was under 130 lbs. Of course--who knows?--maybe the impact was really bad for me in Boot Camp and IMax 2 and now I am hampered with bad knees as a result of my earlier abandon with jumping around. But I really did love it. The next series, Body Blast, was also pretty good, but I preferred PLB to the leg work routine, which I hardly ever did. A lot of riding stables around here, but I am not a horseperson. One of my colleagues has a thoroughbred gelding and does a lot of horseshows.

I watched Mama Mia from netflix last night. Blech! What a stupid film.

Have a great weekend everyone. Tomorrow it's disk 28 for me.
