I have a love for weight training and yoga, and I really struggle to find a balance of the two. At the current time I probably value weight training more, but I don't want to lose the flexibility or gains of my yoga practice.
Right now I am working out 3 days per week:
3 days of 30-40 min cardio with abs,
3 days of weight - split routine, (each bodypart 1x per week)
I usually do a 20 minute Namaste Yoga from FitTv once or twice per week when I have time, however I do want to spend more time doing Ashtanga and/or Vinyasa Yoga.
I am considering doing the following:
3 weeks - above weight lifting rotation
1 week - Ashtanga Yoga (no weights)
3 weeks - weight lifting rotation
1 week - Ashtanga Yoga (no weights)
etc.
I would continue to add in short 20 minute yoga sessions during the three week weight training periods.
Do you think that taking a one week break from weight training every fourth week would set me back too much in my weight training progress? Does anyone else have suggestions on how to get in more yoga? I find that doing Ashtanga Yoga leaves my body too tired to do weight training the next day, and vice versa. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Monica
