I had an overweight man as my training partner in tae kwon do last night. He was probably about 40lbs. overweight, with a pretty big belly. We were doing this drill where we do roundhouse kicks to our partner's stomach. It's all non-contact. Except...well, I've never trained with anyone who had a gut and my first kick clocked him squarely in the belly.
Later on, we were doing sit-ups. Your partner holds your ankles, then you do the situp and punch twice towards their face. Yup, first sit-up, Donna punches partner right in the chin.
He was a great sport. Lucky for him, all my power in TKD comes from my loud kihap (the yell). I figure, I'm small and not very powerful - so I'll scare 'em.
I think he really did enjoy training with me because I pushed him more than his other partners have. I wouldn't let him quit on his 30 push-ups. I kept saying "come on - you can do it...only 3 more...." He did them all, though it took him awhile. I felt like Sean O'Malley. Maybe next time, I'll give him the ol' "this is where the average person would quit...but you're not average!" He thanked me after class. Made my night.
