Odd Question

I love to learn about new and different ways to work out. After STS I will be training for a figure competition, but I have this teeny back/spine issue so I met w/ my orthopedist to be sure I can do it. Turns out my back is way messed up but I put doc in a quandry because while I shouldn't be lifting like I do, he also says if I stop I will have more pain than I ever dreamed possible. Apparently spine fusing surgery is somewhere down the road - maybe - he hasn't quite figured out how to handle me - HA!

But he mentioned to me this way of training called static contraction training. Yes, I googled it and there are some interesting articles. I'm just wondering if any of you have heard of it, tried it, or know someone who has tried it and what kind of results there were. Would appreciate any info. TIA

I'd suggest you try to get feedback on this from figure competitors and the people who train them. Post your question over on the message boards at FigureAthlete.com. They have loads of physical therapists, neurophysiologists, and people who've encountered every conceivable physical issue en route to the stage. I'm sure someone there can help. Good luck.
