Now that was a good book

I know we just had a book thread, but had to share.

I just finished "The Owl Killers" by Karen Maitland. Wow. It was just a random library selection, but I really enjoyed it. Set in a 14th century English village, it basically boils down to their lives and beliefs. Church corruption, church fighting the pagans, believers who want to do good and just be left alone, the plague, poor harvests, sick livestock, and just the general struggle to live and the hardship and fears of the times. Good book. Hooked me in from page 1.

I just started reading it yesterday. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. It sounded so interesting and I never knew that these communities actually existed.

I didn't, either. Learn something new everyday! I actually read the short history section and the glossary in the back 1st. Helped a little. I now feel the need to ask the Google or the Wiki about it and learn some more.

There's something so cool about the random library find and opening the mind to a new author, to a new world.

I am reading Tears in the Darkness: The Story of the Bataan Death March and its Aftermath. It was a random find for me (a new release I was not aware of).
