NOV 08 Check in For FRIDAY, 11/21

I'm thinking Vilma is sleeping in today! ;)
I wonder how the movie was! Do tell, Vilma!! Are you going again tonight?

My "fun" today is going to my annual GYN exam. Woo HOO. And since my usual doc had an accident last week, I have to see someone new. (Or they have to see ME!). I always think, though, they look at those things ALL DAY LONG, day in and day out!

So my appt is at 10am, and my workout is going to get pushed. I'm having these evil thoughts of perhaps skipping it today. Scheduled is LOWMAX. Haven't done that in forever and a day. In fact, I haven't done a Step workout in a few weeks. Maybe that will inspire me when I get home!

Off to nag my boys to get dressed and brush their teeth.... Some days I hate being the Mommy! :p

Just had to add.... Another thing attributing to my not wanting to do a workout today is the MAJOR DOMS I have from GS: Chest , Tri's yesterday! Holy CRAP! I'm soooo sore! Who would have thunk, since I thought I went kind of "light" for my shoulders!

Chris: That is what my problem was yesterday. I put off lomax. Today I am getting my butt in gear to get it done...Hope your appt goes well. I know I never look forward to that time of year!!

Be back after I tackle Lomax and school lessons for today...

Hi! and Happy Friday! I was thrilled to see the title of your post, Chris, because it hadn't fully registered that it's Friday somehow. Yes, I'll bet Vilma's sleeping in with all that midnight twilight madness, so to speak. :)

Good work on the GS! I am feeling sore too, and I definitely slept in this morning -- it was glorious!!! I was going to do yoga, but I just really felt like I needed the sleep. May try to do some yoga later, but with kids around that'll be interesting! :)

Vilma, that Lisa Shaffer book arrived for me yesterday -- I didn't have a lot of time to look through it, but I think it's going to be helpful. I really like that she breaks all her exercises into what body part they work, and also whether or not they are a grind, push/pull, or some other new terminology I've already forgotten! :) I am still trying to figure out some balance between kbells and traditional weights -- I just don't think I can give them up completely -- and knowing what's being worked should help me figure that out a little better.

We have a 7 year old spending the night with us tonight and Sunday we are having a pre-thanksgiving dinner. Ok, I hope I don't offend anyone here, but we've raised a couple of turkeys expecting we would just let them go off and join the wild turkeys once they were big enough. Well, they didn't. Imagine that, they like living the fat, easy life they have here. :) They have gotten so fat, in fact, that they cannot even really walk right anymore -- they really waddle and cannot move fast at all. So, they are going to be dinner -- one Sunday and one Thursday. I'm staying far away from all of the "prep" work to get them there. Like I said, I sure hope I haven't offended anyone! (or grossed you out).

have a fun friday!

-Beth

Beth, wow, that's interesting about the turkeys! Did you try to set them free and they didn't want to go? I bet they'll be delicious, but I would be a bit freaked out about eating something I've looked in the eye! Who's going to do the prep? Can't wait to hear how they are!

Vilma, so, how was it????

Chris, thanks for the laugh! ("they see these things all day" :)) OK, this is even weirder. My gyn's wife works at the front desk in his office. I always wonder what she thinks about sitting out there all day while he's looking at many of "those things" all day. ;) I've been going to him for a couple years and didn't even know that was his wife until I overheard them talking last time about their daughter's wedding (who, by the way, also works there!). Hope you can get in LowMax.

Kathy, I have LowMax scheduled for tomorrow, but might substitute something else. It does say "or your favorite step workout", right? ;)

I have a confession - today's workout was supposed to be GS Chest and Triceps. Well, I did the Timesaver and even skipped a few exercises on that. It'll be interesting to see if I get sore at all. For my 30 minutes of cardio, I did Cardio Force.

Any fun plans this weekend? I've been threatening the kids that we are going to clean their rooms big time for weeks. I may actually do it this time. Boys collect so much, um, stuff.

BBL...

Joanne

Yup I slept in as I didn't get home till after 2ish

Chris
Oy I hate that doctor's visit - why oh why can't they find a way for it to not be so invasive?

Kathy Have fun with that thigh burner which is deceivingly called LM ;)

Beth Let me know after you used Lisa's book if its something I should get . I have her instructional workshop preordered so looking forward to that.

I did receive KBW2 (The Kettlebell Way 2 _Empire State) the other day and previewed it last night while getting dinner ready - I like what I saw and if I have time today will do the workout if not tommorow is another day. Lots of nice goodies in it 2 discs.

Well no offense taken I think having home grown fresh turkey will be good as you know what they fed on. So enjoy, erm not the prep work though. Thats a messy job which I remeber from my childhood summer days in Puerto Rico; my mom prepped chickens in the back yard and I hated the plucking lol

Joanne I was happy with what I saw in the movie but I'm a diehard fan of the book series and I know its not some folks cup of tea. It was fun entertainment.

Weekend plans here I'll be getting the last bit of items I need for a Thanksgiving Brunch. I'll be up early baking and cooking for an all day grazing event lol. Its just us as all of our family is up around NY, NJ and CT. DH is not sure if he's working that day :( I hope not.

I'm hoping dd's bf comes round for some eats but we are a laid back family and if any one pops in thats fine.

So as for moi......

I was not disappointed with the movie Twilight and my 18 yr old was the one who was not happy w/ the casting and was afraid the movie was not going to live up to her very extreme high standards of the book. At one point she was very anti Twilight movie.

She was won over :D If she was, then I know it was good as she is very adamant about 'her' book and had been very skeptical and critical of when we found out last year they were casting the movie.

I had to keep telling her to separate from her mind what happens in the book and to remember this is just a very, very condensed version of the book. The actors are just that actors trying to portray the characters the best way they could - once she got that through her head she was very pleased.

I'm going again to see the 2 pm showing with my youngest.:p Oldest dd will be dragging her bf who came back yesterday for a week to see it tonight

It was a very clean and decent movie... no cuss words and my goodness the kiss but it was just the one. It was not so bad; no tongue, no groping a nice first kiss and of course Edward always stops and pulls away from Bella before he loses control as in not kill her ;). I liked that they kept it chaste throughout the movie as the book is. So I am taking lil miss to see it as she sees us kissing and hugging all the time here so its no biggie.

The place was PACKED! Majority were females with a sprinkling of men.

Not many young folks but lots of women in my age bracket which made me feel very happy. So I know I'm not the only TwilightMom. Some of my 18 yr old's friends were there and thought we were sisters or cousins ;) so they were surprised when she said no I came with my mom lol

One thing though...someone brought a baby and the guy sitting next to me was peeved that it was crying

Ah well can't have it all but it was fun.

Not sure if I'll be fitting in a workout today as I'm going back to the movies , then I'm driving the boy for a sleepover to his friend's house. Oldest DD is working then will be out with her bf so perhaps sometime tonight I'll be able to fit in The Kettlebell Way 2. If not I'll be prepping DH lunchbag, watching ghostwhisper or reading with my 10 yr old.

Have a great Friday all!

Hi again ladies..

Checking back with LoMax done..Glad that I rested yesterday..Gave my chest time to recover from the GS chest & triceps and I was able to pick up my arms to the moves a little easier today..HAHA

Now we are off to Lauren's book club...We are getting photos done tomorrow for the holidays...and Lauren is singing in church with the choir again tomorrow and next weekend too. Father asked the children's choir to sing at the advent mass..It is exciting!!!

Talk to you later..

Hi all, glad I didn't get any flames about the turkeys. :) There are a couple of guys coming over to help with the deed and cleaning. I just want no part of it! My youngest said in the car this morning, "I'm not eating any of it!" We'll see how this goes.....

Vilma, your thanksgiving plans sound nice. We are going up to San Francisco -- our friend is due to have a baby any day now, so she doesn't want to be far from home. They're coming to our house Sunday to do the trial run of the turkey. The thing is, on Thursday they have friends flying in from out of town late in the day, so we won't eat until 5pm, which probably means 6:00. We have a two hour drive home after that and Larry and I are usually in bed no later then 9pm! So, it's going to be a little strange.... maybe it's a midwest thing, but I am used to having tgiving dinner around noon or 2:00. I like the all day grazing idea, Vilma.

Hey Guys!

I made it!! I survived! "No go, walk out the door, just turn around now, you're not welcome anymore..Weren't you the one who tried to break me with goodbye? did you think I'd crumble, did you think I'd break down and die? No, no not I.. I will SURVIVE" (It's on the radio! )

I survived the GYN. I lucked out, and my regular GYN (who I've been seeing since I was 17 and delivered all my babies) came in for a few hours and saw me. He said I'm the easiest patient. I had no "issues" and a quick check under the hood. Refill my BCP's , that's all I want!

On the way home, I had even MORE fun, I stopped at Employee Health Service and got myself a Flu Shot! You ask, "How much more funner can my day get?!?!".

Lastly I came home and talked myself (my tired and sore self) into doing LowMax!! I did the ENTIRE thing! It was so tough, you guys. But I did it. And I think the soreness has lessened up since I did it too.

Beth: We're having Zach's 13 yr old friend staying over tonight. Picking him up in a few and then bringing all of them to the Children's Museum (seems to be a tradition lately on Friday after school). We're having our Thanksgiving on Wednesday. Just me and my boys. usually I have my entire family for dinner, but I ended up having to work Thursday night this year. And DH is working Wednesday night. No way we could do a big dinner. And no one in my family would step up to do dinner. So , it's off. And my mom is going up to Boston to spend the week with my sister. I'm kind of in the dumps about the whole thing. :( Anyways.. I don't see anything wrong with you eating your own turkeys. Personally, I'd be like your son, and not want to eat a "pet" of sorts. But in the end, I'd probably try it! :p ...... I understand not being able to give up traditional weight work. Myself, I like variety. Changing things up every now and then. that's why I get into the Rotations, because they're so different (usually).

Joanne: How weird about your GYNs wife and daughter!! As a nurse, I know it's just different seeing people's "privates". In the medical field, they're "body parts". Your mind just makes a division. Although if Brad Pitt had to have his diaper changed, I might think differently! ;) .... I know, i totally thought about doing another Step workout , but I went for it. And challenged myself and glad i did, but man oh man, my legs were on freakin fire during a few of those blasts! ... I bet you get DOMS tomorrow!! It's hard to dread a workout and make yourself do it. .... My weekend is looking kind of easy. I have to only work Saturday night and off Sunday (because I'm working T-day Night).

Vilma:
YAY for enjoying the movie!!! I know little about it or the book, but I saw the actor in it.. he was HOT! I love the movies, and I swear, would go see anything just for the excuse to be in the big movie theater and eat popcorn! ... Hope your DH has Thanksgiving off with you! Our actual Thursday will be leftovers and just us.

Kathy: WOO HOO! For doing LowMax today!! Wasn't it tough??? I probably should have taken a rest day, it was hard for me, and I was so tired. I just ordered our Christmas cards yesterday. Have fun with the photos! And the choir sounds beautiful!

Beth
: Yes, we always eat around 2-ish for holiday dinners, too. And then eat dessert the rest of the day. After of course, cheese, crackers, drinks, veggies, etc I will miss it, but my jeans won't!

okay, better go find some socks... my boys will be home soon...

Kathy and Chris, high fives to both of you for surviving LowMax!! Did you use one or two risers on each side?

Chris, I had a flu shot today too. Got mine at work. I was really dreading the needle going in and thinking about how I always tell my kids "it's fine, it won't hurt too much, be brave, etc., etc." when they get shots. Well, I was skeered! But, it was fine.

We're still not sure what we're doing for T'Day. FIL wants to have it at his house - no one wants to go. Lots and lots of issues there and it would take pages to explain it all! My dad is still in the nursing home, but my mom is going to see if they'll set him free for the day. It's also his b'day. If so, she'll cook at her house for just us. It'll actually be nice, very casual.

Chris, too funny - I've been missing popcorn since our microwave is on the fritz. I was thinking of taking the kids to see a movie this weekend and thought how nice it would be to have popcorn!!

Beth, we eat around 4 or 5 on T'day. It's usually supposed to be around 3, but in reality it's an hour or two later.

Vilma, sounds like the movie was a blast!

Gotta run....
Chris and Beth - have fun with the sleepovers! We've only done one at our house and that was with cousins. The boys haven't really asked to have one, but I'm sure it's coming.

Joanne: I used 2 risers on each side making 8"...I enjoyed it today!! Glad for that rest day. I don't think I would have given it my all yesterday..

Chris: Glad your appointment was easy..Mine are like that too..
