No longer a chicken

I have had several tapes, some for years, some for months, that I have been too chicken to try, or maybe too lazy. It's so easy to just put on my walkin' shoes.

I've been trying to ease my way into step tapes, and have done the hi-lo part of MIC. My first Cathe step effort will be Step Heat. For endurance purposes I've also done Tae-Bo Advanced. Tuesday I did Gin Miller's Intense Moves, and know that Interval Max is longer. Any suggestions as to whether I should continue to do Intense Moves (which I finished, but it kicked my butt) for awhile, or start to do Interval Max, maybe not the whole thing if it's too much.

Help please with your collective wisdom

I just HAD to see what this was about!

"No longer chicken" from HONEYBUNCH of all people really caught my interest. I thought "Honeybunch?? She's not chicken of ANYTHING!" --I always think of you as such an amazon woman! Well, now I know! I think IMax is significantly harder than IM, but I have heard people express the opposite opinion as well. I would say two things, first that its important to only do that kind of intense interval traiing once or twice a week. Secondly, go ahead and try IMax. If you only get through 3 intervals you can shoot for 4 next time. YOu might surprise yourself and do 7 or 8 (or 10?? honeybunch you can probalby do about anythign you set your mind to, LOL!). So I say, give IMax a try. If you feel like it's too tough, just do IM for a while to get worked up to it. -susanp

Try Interval Max!

Hi Honeybunch,
I am one of those people who think Intense Moves is harder than IMax, but I think I am in the minority. I think Cathe's intervals are generally harder, but the rest periods are easier. And, like Susan said, you don't have to finish all ten workouts and the intervals are easy to modify. Hope you have a lot of fun!!

Agree with Erica

If you start out just doing 1 or 2 or 3 intervals of IMax at a time, you'll do just fine. To help calm your nerves, try lowering your step in the beginning. The choreography is not complex in Interval Max, but compared to Intense Moves, it's the theory of relativity. So give yourself a while to get familiar with it, since you haven't done too many of Cathe's step tapes. The choreography for the intervals themselves is very simple, but quite intense.

I agree with Erica that I find Intense Moves more tiring than Interval Max, I also agree that IMoves feels tougher to me because the "rest" periods are tougher than in Cathe's tape. As for the intervals themselves, there are a couple of Cathe's intervals that are tougher than Gin's, but the majority of Cathe's are the same level or even easier.

(Hint: the toughest intervals aren't even on the step, they're on the floor. Think "plyo" power to the nth degree!)

And a tip for you, please don't be too terrified when you preview the tape. The first time I watched it, I had to stop the tape at about the 3rd interval. And don't think about it too much, just DO IT. After I finish Interval Max, I feel like a world champion.

Good luck.

I just started out not knowing any better!

Susie Q, you flatter me! I have said that when I started out I learned on heavy weights 'cause I that's how I was taught and I didn't know any better. But you can call me an Amazon anyway!

I think I'll be brave and try IMAX after a couple of rounds of Step Heat to get used to Cathe's choreography.

Thanks y'all for the encouragement!!
