I just need to know, if there's anyway I can keep from losing muscle and gaining weight after i have my surgery???

I am getting my tonsiles removed and I guess I'll be in a bed for a week, give or take, so any advice on not starting ALL over again with the workouts?

Do you think I'll need to start over? I hope not. I'm on a roll right now! teehee. I guess I'm worried all my hard work will be lost. =( Thanks everyone!

Oh no, you'll be fine. I had surgery almost a year ago & was down for 6 weeks. I did lose strength, but not much, & I got it back pretty quickly. And my doc told me something interesting--when you have surgery your metabolism increases b/c your body is working to heal or something of the like.

Actually taking a week off might be good for your muscles, give the fibers a a chance to repair--you could be surprised to find you come back even stronger!

no way really? about the increased metabolism thing? wow! I can understand how that works though, just never really though about it! I hope I do come back fast after I'm done dying in bed! LOL. Thank you Laura!

Hi, I had my thyroid removed two months ago. Before surgery I was very tired and hadn't exercised hard for at least a few months...so I was feeling weak and soft already. I kept my diet pretty clean so I didn't gain any weight despite little exercise but I could feel my body composition changing. After surgery I had a sore throat and just wasn't so hungry and lost a few lbs and felt really soft and weak (hate that!!) It took me a while to build back up to my workouts, but never gained any weight from this (except I did gain a few lbs from over-eating after I was feeling better!!). I'm mostly back to my regular workouts and getting stronger and feeling my muscles again.

If it's only one week or so you should be ok. Most importantly listen to your body and get the clearance from your doc. Wishing you a happy and speedy recovery!:D

aaaw! thank you very much ellesan! I was mainly just worried if all the hard work I've put in the past many months would go to waste. But I'm not so much now. Especially since it's only going to be a week or two! thanks again ladies! =)

You won't lose much in a wk or 2. Maybe a bit of cardio endurance and a wee bit of strength. I have found that by the 2nd or 3rd workout (depending on the break) I am right back where I left off. Concentrate on getting better. The workout will be still be there.
