Need advice

My marriage is not doing well, DH and I are talking about getting a divorce, we have a 3 year old. I don't have family in this country, and I don't have $$$.

I am a full-time student in an Accounting Certificate Program. I will graduate next fall and plan on taking the CPA exam in 2010. I am not currently employed.
In order to get certified, I need 2000 hrs accounting experience, which I don't have. What would you do? take less classes and work part-time/ full time depending on marriage situation to build those hours? in this case it will take me longer to finish and forever to get my CPA certification. Or should I focus on school only and try to finish as planned next fall, then find a part-time job and prepare for CPA at my pace. If I focus on school only, then DH will have to support me until I find a job next year and we would have to live in the same house.

My worry is that I will not have enough money to pay daycare, mortgage (less than rent anywhere anytime). I would have to find a good paying job which will not be easy since I will be starting at the bottom of the ladder.

This sounds like a complicated situation. I don't know that I can necessarily give good advice here, but in reading your post, I do think one can "hear" which way you are leaning.

Either route will have its challenges, so best of luck to you!

Here's my advice: Go and see an attorney so that you know exactly what your options are. You may be able to make a better decision that way and you will avoid sturggling through only to find out in a year what you "could have done." Right now, you are waying options with what you think is the right information. If you go to see the attorney, you may find that you will get more support than anticipated, that you may be entitled to spousal support or that you have other options that you never thopught of. I know you said that you don't have money, but you can save a few bucks to go (b/c it may very well give you much peace of mind), call your local bar association for a referral (and then most give free consultations) or call the local court and see if they have a "Lawyer for the day" program (entirely free for those that income qualify).

It's not easy but you work with what you've got and you will be okay. Good Luck!
