need a good weight set

I'd like to start lifting more than the 5lbs dumbbells I have when I do a total body sculpting. I've look around at walmart and a sporting good store to find a weight set that has a barbell a couple of plates (25 to 35 lbs total) and maybe some dumbbells (8, 10, 12). I cant seem to find a good beginner set. Any ideas? I'd like to get a good cathe dvd to introduce me to weight lifting, I'd like to hear your suggestions for that too. Thanks.

I have never seen a "set" of dumbells that come in 8-10-12, but you can buy them separately at either Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or any sporting goods place.

A lot of folks around here like the "Troy Aerobic Lite" barbell, with which you can load it to 40# with what you get in the set. Don't know how much shipping is:

I know somebody got a barbell set at Amazon.com for like $20.00, but again, don't know about shipping.

If you have not done a whole lot of lifting, I would personally recommend Cathe's Supersets & Push Pull. She used a stability in Push Pull. I found these to be a good intro for Cathe's style, and they prepared me for her more advanced Dvds also. Later, you might like Pyramid Upper and Pyramid Lower Body. These are very straight-forward..just good, old fashioned style that reaps great benefits. I only say later, because you will have built some strength up and have a better idea of what size weights you'll want to use. Oh, and Muscle Endurance is fun, too!
She has a beginner DVD also, I believe it is called Total Body Sculpting,(?) but I don't have it. You might want to check out the video clips to see what suits you.

I know you indicated that you only want 25 to 35 lbs but you can get a decent set with 100 lbs for around $40 at D*ck's Sporting Goods or Sports Authority if you have one near you. The set will come with a 15 lb bar, clips and 10, 5, & 2.5 lb plates for a total of 100 lbs.

Happy shopping

check play it again sports. having in great shaped used equipment that is really easy on the checkbook. i bought a new barbell there 2 months ago for $12. of course i already had extra plates but play it again sports sells those too.

i too have not seen dumbbell sets of 8,10,12. i bought a pair of 8's at walmart and use two sets of adjustable dumbbell bars(i had to buy smaller plates) and alternate 10,12,15 on those.but wal-mart and play it again sports are the best price wise for those and you can get iron or neoprene covered ones.

go to http://www.playitagainsports.com and see if there is one close to you. i was surprised how many are near me in this area. HTH
