My family situation is proof positive of the power of exercise!!

If it weren't for my workouts, I don't know what would've happened to my mental mindset over the past couple of weeks.

I posted a while back about having to tell my brother he wasn't welcome in my home. Now my wife and I are in the process of putting my mother is either assisted living or a nursing home, she just can't live alone anymore, and I am soooo glad she realizes this, I had wrestled with the idea of just going ahead and trying to force the issue, but was quite relieved when she said she's ready.

Mom's always been quite independent, so this was tough on us, but I do beleive the quality of her life will improve because of this. My wife being a RN helps greatly, she knows how to "talk the talk" when it comes to dealing with Social Services, so I know Mom will get the best possible care!!

My mom was and always will be my best friend, even though my wife is 1A on the list. Mom and I watched baseball together religiously, and I remember her and I carrying on like kids when the Phillies won the World Series in 1980...(time for another one, fellas!!). Since Mom suffers from dementia now, we don't have those lengthy conversations we once did. It is now on me to see that she has the best of everything, and I will deliver!!

This is where the work outs come in. They relieve the anger, the stress, and replace those things with focus, which is what I need most right now.

Does exercise have effect on mood, you'd better beleive it does!! Take it from someone who used to thing relief came in 12 ounce bottle a few years ago!!

Thanks for listening,

Jerry

Jerry,

I enjoy reading your posts not only because they contain the male perspective but also because you are so enthusiastic. You have made such a positive impact on the Cathe forums!

I am so jealous of your ability to regularly visit Cathe at the gym too!

Utah to the East coast is a bit of a trip for me! :)

Have a great day!

I just wanted to add a big ^^^^5 for getting off the booze -- I bet it was no easy feat, be very proud of yourself for the healthier lifestyle!!

Yes, congrats on finding better methods of dealing with life than hitting the bottle. :) And yes, working out is the absolute best way for improving mood. I suffer from depression and cannot afford not to keep working out for the rest of my life.
