My early christmas present

Good Morning everybody!

I wanted to let you know that I gave myself an early christmas present. Please don't throw sticks and stones at me, I know I should have waited and she really is not a "replacement" for Jake.

I have known her for about a year and fell in love with her, however, she was going to be sold to a breeder in Texas and I didn't want her to end up as a breeding machine, after some negotiations, I ended up buying her for a lot of money - I guess no other christmas presents for me this year and next year :)

So here she is, her royal highness Boldheart's Desert Diamond, short Pepper.

Here are the "3 Musketeers", from the left Pepper, Scooter and Tuxedo.

She is such a sweet girl, she'll be two years old Dec. 27. She is already ruling the rooste, hopefully she'll teach the boys some manners - they sure need it, they just came in all muddy from running through the sprinklers - and they just had a bath on Sunday, arrrggghh, never a dull moment :)!

What an absolutely beautiful dog!! In fact, they're all beauties. What kind of dogs are they?
 
I'm gonna guess border collies? She's really cute Carola & I don't think there's anything at all wrong w/you getting her now. Everyone deals w/grief in different ways & if this makes you feel better I'm glad you did it, & I'm sure Jake is too (especially after she gets to her first pair of shoes).
 
Thanks for the compliment! They are Miniature Australian Shepherds. The standard Aussie stands between 18 - 23 inches, whereas the minis are between 14 - 18 inches. My two boys are 17 inches and Pepper is 15.5 inches, they weigh around 30 lbs each.

Mini Aussies retain the same herding instinct, trainability and intellegence as the standard Australian Shepherd but they come in a little smaller package and they do have an "off" button :), well, most of the time. They do need a lot of exercise though, which is why I got my first Mini Aussie, so I get my butt into gear and they sure do their job, I am usually out with them walking, running, hiking or biking between 1.5 to 3 hours every day. Who needs a diet - just get a Mini Aussie ;-)

Oh, Carola! You are such an angel for saving her from that horrible fate! What a beautiful family---She's so lucky to be a part of your lives!!!
 
Thanks Laura! It wasn't so much about making me feel better, I just didn't want to see her ending up as a breeding machine, producing puppies twice a year, the breeder in Texas was a new breeder just starting a new breeding program.

She actually hasn't been chewing up my shoes yet, probably because the other two are getting to them first and there isn't any left}( But she is almost two years old, so maybe there is a chance that she won't. One can alway hope :+ , right.

Pretty close guess with the Border Collie, Mini Aussies are like Border Collies, just with an OFF button.

your dogs are so pretty, and pepper is such a lucky girl to have you for her mom. not only did you get yourself a christmas present, but you gave pepper one too. they are so cute all laying together and look to be close buddies already. i just had to put my dog down in october, and am having feelings of wanting another one now. i was sitting outside at starbucks the other day and this girl had her cute little dog with her. i started crying because it reminded me of my baby. you will have the best christmas ever knowing that you saved pepper from a sad existence and she now has such a great family to be a part of. good for you...
 
Oh, I am so sorry about your furry baby!! I know how hard it is to put your dog down! They are just such integral parts of our lives and they leave such a big hole when they leave. After Jake left, I still had 3 other dogs and it was still hard, I still miss him.

I wasn't planning on another dog, I already have 3 for pete's sakes, but I couldn't get her out of my mind. It cost me a lot of money to get the original breeder to breech her contract with the breeder in Texas and sell her to us.

I also agreed that she will have 2 more litters in the next 3 years and all but one of the puppies of each litter, will be turned over to the breeder, so she can sell them. But it is better than Pepper possibly having puppies every 6 months with the breeder in Texas. This way I have a say in where the puppies are going, meaning, I will get to interview the people BEFORE the puppies are sold to them and I can say no, if I feel those people don't meet my requirements as a puppy parent. Not what I wanted, but it was the only way to get her, and I felt it was the lesser of two evils.

I am more into rescueing dogs and I volunteer my time and resources to a rescue organisation, the plan was to foster dogs until they find a new home, but here I am with 3 purebred dogs - that I bought. Oh well, in Pepper's case, even though I spent an arm and a leg on her, it still makes me feel like I did a "good deed". Don't get me wrong, the original breeder, in my opinion, is a very responsible breeder and I trust her, the problem I had was with the other breeder in Texas.

It sounds though as you should be looking into getting another dog, not to replace your baby but togive another dog a great home. It is not a betrayal of your previous dog!

Congrats on your great Christmas present. As for being afraid someone will say it's too soon, That's crazy. It can never be to soon to love another animal. You're not replacing one, you're just expanding your heart and making room to love another one.

I LOVE Australian Shepards. My Border Collie is 1/4 Aussie Shepard. Her third birthday was December 17th.

Your dogs look a lot like my Tiffany.

I just adopted a Bull Terrier Mix. I adopted him at only 5 weeks old - he weighed only 6 pounds when I took him to the vet. Six weeks later, he weighs almost 20 pounds. His mother and the litter were very malnourished.

Somebody had duct taped his mother's mouth shut and left her and her entire litter along an interstate.

All the dogs got a home.

The animal shelter called me and said I could have my pick of the three remaining males. Two were black and white and one was chocolate and white.

I could not bear to look at the other doggies, I just said, "The chocolate one"

So congratulations for adding to your family.

Dogs are such special animals -- they love unconditionally and are loyal.

I am sure your new girl will be a great influence on her brothers!
 
What a great Christmas gift. All of them are so cute!! Problably never a dull moment at your house.
