Lower Body Strength / Endurance

I have neglected my lower body over the past few years of heavy weight training. I did them, but not much. Id train them for a couple weeks and then forget about them. Mainly because I have the tightest hamstrings in the world (deadlifts on BACK day left me sore for days regardless of the stretching I did).
I have kind of bad knees and feet that are misaligned with my knees so moves such as lunges and squats were dreaded so I just left leg training out for weeks at a time.
I did do more floorwork with ankleweights and the stability ball.
But now Ive started speed skating again and I need to have stronger legs! Im focused on doing whatever I need to do to get prepared for the season. Ive started doing the 4DS lower body, Im getting through the squats and lunges (I can do them, just harder due to the knees so I just dread having to do them :)
Im looking into some "Strength - Endurance" training styles, focused not just on strength (1-5 reps), or endurance (12-15 reps) but on BOTH.
It refers to training with the heavier weights and fewer reps, but for MORE SETS.
For example maybe only doing 2 or 3 reps with a 30-60 second rest, for 10-15 sets.
Their idea is that it would not only help you to gain strength through heavy weights, but to build endurance through increased sets per exercise (mimiking sport training by conditioning you to exert maximum strength, with little rest, over the course of 10-15 sets).

Does this make any sense to any of you advanced and knowledgeable lifters and what do you think?

I want to build strength to skate fast and low, but endurance to be able to maintain this for lengths of time.
I was thinking training 2-3 times per week.
1 or 2 with heavier weights (via the methods above) and then the other 1 or 2 via Cathes circut premixes (like LIC or Drill Max etc) for conditioning.

I practice for 2 hours, 2 or 3 nights per week and I don't know if I should count that as something.
Please send me your advice and recommendations for a routine or a regime for me try try?
