Low Carbers and Friends - June - August 2013

Well, I hope it's a good thing you're not ;). I'm telling ya - menopause is not kind to the figure . Even avoiding insulin-inducing foods, there is still an impact brought on by menopause. Only extremely gifted (or abnormal :p) people breeze through with no physical changes.

I tried a smoothy recipe this a.m., it's suppose to have lower carbs, but lots of good fats, etc. Suppose to help reduce that sugar high and not be hungry for hours. Well, not so for me. I've never been good with low carb anyways. I ate it and was hungry after an hour. So then I ate like I usually do and felt fine. I'm going to stick with what works for me, just maybe eat slightly smaller portions.

Melinda - That sounds like a great plan. We each have to find what works for us. After all, so much more goes into being fit than just what our exteriors look like :). What's happening on the inside is more important, IMHO.

Shoot! Just lost my darn post.

Hi babes! Melinda, Lita is right. I am experiencing the bigger stomach which came on over the past 6 months when my period left me. (Then I got it last month and still have the stomach!) :( All of my pants are tight in the waist but fit the same everywhere else. I had hot flashes for 2 months and then they stopped. I think we all hit it similarly and differently too. I read Cathe's newsletter now and again when she talks about the big M and she repeats what is best to do: step up the workouts and eat clean, i.e. no processed foods. I've stepped up the workouts meaning I'll let myself become a sweaty mess at work during lunch now and I do OK during the week with the eating but the weekends are a real challenge for me. DH and I are on the go alot and I'll bring a protein bar and water with me but that doesn't hold me all day. So we end up at fast food. I still try to watch it but I don't have it in me to be too hard on myself. :)

But I know I'm healthy and I take pride in that.

Tracy - Sorry you got your period again . Makes you wonder what's coming next, doesn't it :p?

FWIW, I think a belly bump and healthy beats thin and ill any day ;)!

Lita, that is funny "belly bump" :) I saw that in my reflection in the window the other day and thought I hope no one thinks I'm pregnant!

Yea, on the healthy side, I'm probably stronger than I've ever been and have a lot of energy. And now with the coffee gone, my nerves are calming down quite a bit.

I'm really focusing more on clean eating.

Believe me, Melinda, I know that dread . I suck in as hard as I can but it still isn't good enough .... I'd vote for stronger, more energy, and calmer any day :D!

Nope it is not kind and I'm fighting it tooth and nail! Speaking of which, I need to go walk!!!

Hi babes! Looks to me like we are all quite healthy despite some differences that have emerged in our current formative years, I must say WE ROCK! :D

So I've been off work this week but got no exercise in. Reason: I came down with some strange thing that gave me constant upper ab pain for 4 days before I saw the Dr. I was so uncomfortable that I had to keep moving all the time. Night was the worst. It finally started calming down by the time I saw my Dr. (whew!) but he had a scan done and blood work anyway and the only thing they found was a little sluggishness in my gall bladder. So, I either passed a gall stone, got a virus, or transient food poisoning. I'm still not 100% and need to take anti-nausea medication but it is so much better than before. Weird! And I'm not upset it happened while I was off work because I'm on a staycation. Had I been in Hawaii, well, that would be a different story!

Have a healthy weekend babes!

Tracy, I hope you feel your old self again, soon.

Rhea, I'm joining you in the battle!

Lita, you make a very good point and reminder about health as top priority! I know DH and I are a lot better off health wise than other people we know our age.

Not a lot going on here, other than doing chores around the house and stuff with the garden. Our summer feels like fall, it should be the dog days of summer in Aug here, but it feels like Oct. We're lucky to get 80 degrees. BUT, I'm not complaining, because it's so much easier to get work done when the temp is pleasant.

Just finished up week 3 of meso 2 on STS.

Tracy - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! I know it's tomorrow (Tues) and I should've put this up sooner since you likely won't be around tomorrow but.... Better late than never, right ;)? Hope whatever happened soon leaves you entirely alone ! I swear, the older we get, the more odd things that happen ....

Melinda - It's hard to keep up the "health matters most" mantra when I look in the mirror but in my HEART, I know it's true :p.... I'll happily share our dog days with you :D!

Rhea - How goes the BFFM challenge? I think you're working too hard, girl - you never get to come visit anymore :(!

Hi babes!!!

Thank you so much for the anniversary wishes Lita! We've made it 8 years and the fact we didn't kill each other building the house tells me we'll probably keep each other around for awhile.

Annnnnnddddd: HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you dear Lita!!!! I hope you have a wonderfully, relaxing day that isn't too hot!!

Lita, I think your hot is more pleasant than mine and Melinda's. We get a little humid here (I know it gets alot humid for Melinda!) and you're dry, right? I'll take that!

Goodness! I lost my voice this past week--due to allergies! DH refrained from saying he preferred me more quiet since I tried to keep from talking....:p

Took it easy on the workouts since I missed a week and wasn't sure if I was getting sick so I plan to jump back in next week.

Rhea, you're not working too hard are you?

Talk to you soon babes!

Thanks, Tracy! Ironic you should say that - this has been the most humid summer we've had in all the years I've been here :p.

Ooh, I'm such a bad friend....Happy Belated Birthday LIta!!! I sure hope you had a great one.

Rhea - Not a bad friend at all, just a busy one ;)! I had a marvelous day - went to Yellowstone Nat'l Park with a co-worker, his wife, and a friend that was visiting them. Had the best day ever. Now, how are you doing? How's that BFFM challenge going? How's work? You've been MIA way too long, dear friend!

Melinda - Speaking of MIA friends, how are you doing? You still have decent weather? Hope school is going well for you. I'm sure you're going to be more than ready to get it behind you! Hopefully you'll get a breather soon so you can pop in and let us know how it's going :).

Tracy - Sure hope you're still feeling better and have gotten those allergies and that other nasty experience far behind you! Wow - are you sure it's been 8 years already ???? Boy how time flies!
