lacking motivation

For some reason my motivation for the past month has been lacking. I think I worked out maybe 4 times in an entire month. when I am doing a tape, my mind is wandering and I can barely make it through.
I have been going through a slight depression lately and drinking wine at night before I go to bed. Maybe that is the problem.
I guess I just needed to vent and get some words of encouragement.
Thank you,

Hey Lizzy: Sorry to hear you're feeling down and low on motivation lately. In my experience when I feel funked out, the depressive nature of alcohol ultimately exacerbates those feelings. It may feel good going down and numb me out some but invariably I feel blue the day after drinking (for me even a few drinks makes me feel this way). It may also make it easier to sleep after a few drinks but the quality of sleep is compromised adding further to fatigue and funk. None of this is conducive to motivation. I hope you can start to rise up out of these depressed feelings and try to focus more on the positive aspects of your life; what could be more positive than your own health and wellness.

In the past people have very wisely suggested doing your absolute favourite workouts to get the motivation going again. Do what you enjoy and try to stay focussed as you workout. Perhaps a few short and long term goals would help get the motivational juices flowing.

I have slipped into clinical depression twice in the past 10 years and both times found that taking time to workout helped enormously. Endorphins are an amazing mood brightener and for me working out intensely is when I forget my day to day worries and focus on higher, stronger, harder}( :)

Take Care

Hi Lizzy,

I completely agree with everything Laurie said, particularly the bit about the wine doing more harm than good. If you're going through a tough time right now, don't let the problem consume your entire existence. Take care of your health, because eventually the problem will be resolved, and a thing of the past. Try to come out the other side with your health still intact; it's one good thing you can do for yourself, regardless of whatever else is going on in your life.

Set small goals, focus only on the present and what you are able to do right now, and pick your absolute favourite workout(s).

All the best,
Sandra
