Kittys are so smart!

I don't own any b/c DH is allergic but I love them!
I just took DD to gymnastics and on the way home there was a kitty trying to cross the street but everytime she/he would make her/his move a car would come and she/he would go back.So I wondered, will she go if I stop? I slowed down , she/he saw me and she took her time crossing the street.I wanted to get out of my car and give her a big sqeeze!
I know dogs are very smart, but if either one of mine saw a cat or another dog on the other side of the street, they would run and not look.Sometimes when I am on the front lawn with them. Hypothetically speaking, of course! They aren't aloud to roam around like Kitty cats!

There used to be a stray cat (whom I later adopted) at the house I used to rent who lived under the crawlspace across the street. When she heard my car coming, she would run out from under the crawl space, look down the street, and then cross over to wait for me.

Not all cats are as "street smart", I'm afraid. The ones who are survive longer, and the one you saw must have been one of those.

FYI: I remember a Time-Life book on mammels that my family had when I was a kid. In the front, there is a chart showing the intelligence of various species: humans first, then some apes, then dolphins(?not sure about that one), then cats, then dogs. My cats agree that it's accurate!

I have to tell ya'll a short story. Not my cat. It was in the newspaper or on the news, can't remember. A family cat had gotten into their car/truck and no one knew. Somewhere along the way the cat got out and they saw him, but they couldn't catch him as he was scared. Well, some time later (can't remember the time frame) the cat showed up at the front door. His poor little feet were bloody and he was skinny. The vet told them that he must have walked for days trying to get home. Poor thing, but he made it.
