Good morning everyone!!

Getting started with my day...Workout for me is Muscle Max....Lauren has another day of Camp. She loved yesterday. I am so happy. I am hoping she will get some pointers from the instuctor to help with her writing skills...Chris is going to play at a friend's house this afternoon while Lauren is at camp..

Ok, well now it is time to get this busy day started...As soon as breakfast has time to digest, I will head down to do my workout..

Talk to you later..

Good Morning, Kathy!

to everyone to follow!!!

Today is a total body weight workout, so I've decided on PUB/PLB Premix combo , I need to do abs too, so I hope those are in there, if not, I'll have to throw some in.

Kathy: Enjoy MM!! I wish I had a child that loved to read/write... It's like it's summer and any kind of book love is GONE ... they just want to run around all day and say "F" words and ring people's doorbells and run! Enjoy your "alone" time today too!...

Off I go!!

Good morning! I sort of disappeared yesterday, didn't I? Kathy, that tomato and cucumber salad is the best -- we had it again last night, though I had to use a store-bought cuc!

Bug bites -- ech! My poor niece is living in a place that has bed bugs, I think they finally figured out -- they thought it was spiders for a long time -- so she is moving this weekend. Apparently she looks diseased from it -- poor thing!!

Chris, I love that PUB/PLB combo -- I can't wait to do it again once I get my disc back -- I should have it in a couple of weeks, I think is when I see my friend.

So funny, well, not for you I know, about the F word and all. Did he feel any consequence from being banned from the neighbors, or is that why the doorbell ringing started? I have no advice for you on this -- just good luck! Honestly, there are worse things he could be doing!

All my kids want to read are comic books -- and Travis is re-reading all the Twighlight books for the second and third time. He's supposed to read either Treasure Island or The Secret Garden this summer and so far he hasn't gotten into either. I should start a countdown -- we are well into the summer now!! Yikes, yes, he really needs to get going on one of them!!

It's finally summer here -- that is, it's turned hot. Not dreadfully hot, but not real pleasant, either. But, yesterday I got the kids a Razor Powerwing Scooter -- it's a blast!!! I saw them at the race track on Sunday, and figured it'd be a fun thing to have here for kids who don't skate. It'll hold up to 143 pounds or something, so of course I had to try it. It's really fun, and not scary like a ripstick. So, we did that for a long time late afternoon yesterday, and then we all tried to watch Inkheart, but it was too scary for Dylan, so that was that.

Oh, sheesh -- my workout! I'm so chatty. I loved the rest day yesterday -- definitely needed it. I didn't sleep in so much as I just stayed in bed reading. It was great! Today I did a kettlebell workout -- fun! Though I'm not sure I feel very worked!

It's Tuesday, so that means piano lessons, library, and swim lessons. Travis is done with swim lessons, but Dylan has a makeup today because his teacher was sick one day. Have a great day!!

HEY AGAIN!

I'm back, I did do the PLB/PUB premix. A little bit hard on my legs, they were starting to get tight/sore from my run yesterday. And I was a little too ambitious with the leg presses. I put my high step up WAY too high and started with 25#'s. I failed! Ugh that was tough! I had to go down with the step AND weights. but yes, it was a good one! I added on the Stability ball abs from PUB too. Haven't done THAT one in forever either! Is she flippin crazy with all those pikes and then balancing on one leg? Damn!

Beth: Actually, the doorbell ringing was happening BEFORE the "F" word. Jake was getting wild with his friend, I guess. It's funny, he was punished to be in the house for 2 days (Sun and Mon) by Greg, I wasn't sure if the total punishment, (forgot to clarify it with him!), but today, Jake is happy as a clam playing around in the house himself. He even did my workout with me! (very cute!). If he really wants to go out, I'll let him stay in the yard. ..... My eldest son was in a summer book club a few years ago, and they read "Secret Garden" and met once a week at the park, and re-enacted some of the stuff at the park, in the garden. He really enjoyed it. ... but *hates* reading books now. *sigh*. I can't force them. I do try to get them excited , but it doesn't work.

What tomato cucumber salad are you guys talkign about? I must have missed something!. :p I should make a trip to the farm stand and get some fresh veggies today!

I'm so unmotivated on Tuesdays... just feel like being lazy....

Chris, I have totally given myself permission to go light on legs always! Maybe I just like the rationalization, but that podcast I heard where the guy was saying women should go light on legs to get the proportions right has really stuck with me!

Kathy and I both mentioned having cucumber and tomato salad -- you didn't miss a recipe or anything. I dress mine with rice vinegar -- so simple, and tasty!

Maybe it was the Secret Garden that took the love out of reading! Just kidding -- that sounds like a really fun way to do it -- I wish I'd thought of that, because that might have been the motivation he needed. I told him he needs to spend 30 min. a day reading one of those books, and he proceeded to go outside. Now they are playing the giant elaborate game with all the toys involved -- they are happy and not fighting, therefore I am happy!

So with all that said about the reading... I just got Jake signed up for a summer library book club. It's based on the WGBY Martha Speaks show (it's a very cute cartoon about a talking dog, Martha, that teaches meanings of big words). I'm very excited and we were very lucky, because there was just ONE spot left and a long waiting list, but everyone else on the waiting list had 2 kids.

We get to go to the library today!!...

Yeah, I know, Beth, that Secret Garden was the killer! Don't do it!!!...

I made that Corn & Black Bean salad for the cook-out on Friday and have been eating it the last few days. It's so good and made with Rice Vinegar too...did you give me the recipe? I know I got it here somewhere!... I bet I could do tomato/cuke salad and add the liquid ingredients from that recipe too!

here it is, is this familiar to you?

Black Bean & Corn Salad

1 1/2 cups corn, thawed & drained
1 14 oz. can black beans, rinsed & drained
1/2 cup red pepper
1/2 cup onion
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

2 Tbsp. seasoned rice wine vinegar
1 Tbsp. evoo (extra virgin olive oil)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. lime juice

Combine 1st five ingredients in a bowl and toss. Combine 2nd five ingredients in a small bowl and whisk together. Pour over corn/black bean mix, toss.

I think I might have given you that recipe -- it looks pretty familar -- I love that salad!

Very cool about the book club! I've not heard about stuff like that around here -- all I hear from the libraries and book stores is that if the kid keeps a reading log, they will give them a book if they read enough. My kids aren't really into that so much....

I wonder how Joanne is enjoying the vacation! I hope she is!

-Beth

OH! AND I wanted to thank you, beth, for reminding me about the going lighter on the legs. I remember you mentioning that topic before, and I'd forgotten. But I do think that lighter weight work and running is probably better for me.

ooops, gotta go..bbl!

howdy! late check in (or at least more than usual). I feel soooo good today. My ankle has stopped bugging me as much and my eye is feeling better and Joe was sweet enough to let me stay in late so I could work out. I've been trying to figure out the best way for me to arrange my work hours lately and I really have been liking going in late. I can still get a ton of housechores done, workout, phonecalls, and have energy to come to the evil place where all my hopes and dreams die. Only thing is that Joe and I don't get time together which was a problem in the past (when we first got married) but I wonder if it may be a good thing now...I would certainly be less annoyed with his lazitude if I wasn't there to witness it.

My work out -- Imax2 plus Ab Burner. I was going to do my IM3/IM2 hybrid but as soon as I put on my shoes, my foot gave me a weird pain and decided those double feet hops were not a good idea to my little piggies. Pretty happy I did. I then ate leftover yams from dinner for lunch. Mmmm....

Kathy -- Muscle Max is a tough one! That's so cool about Lauren's class. It's creative writing, right? You know, <cough> if your school area pays the honorarium, my sister the children's book author could come! Ok, I'm done selling it. :)

Beth -- yeah, beth, you can take some of my pasadena summer away. 90s for the last cuople days. I'm used to seeing it in August but not July. It's weird though...if I drive about 8mi south, the temp drops about 5 degrees. Another 8 mi west, another 5 degrees. It's also insane how 5 degrees can make such a difference! I'm sorry about him not wanting to read -- I read a ton in the summer but I hate being outside because I hate the heat and I hate bugs so reading was the best way to pass the time. Treasure Island is very boyish...though Secret Garden really isn't. There's a musical for Secret Garden -- maybe lure him with that? It would lure Joe but he has a weird musical thing. It was funny -- I was just thinking about how when I finish this one video game for the DS (yes, that's how awesome Sunday was, I saved the world again) how its perfect for your kid's age and it so much strategy but now I'm like, no video game for you until you read Secret Garden!

Chris -- eek about the F word. I'll be honest, its a common adjective (and adverb) in my vernacular but in my defense, I grew up in NEW JERSEY. We all swore like sailors before HS ended. But duuuude, don't get caught!! And anything Cathe does with legs, I go lighter. I don't understand -- we run and walk with our legs all the time and now I step -- why is the leg work soooo hard?!?!

Joanne -- WE MISS YOU!!

Blech...science hates me...

Hottie, glad to hear you had a better day!!! It's hot here -- I didn't mean I was happy about it. :) About 100 today. I heard the fog is supposed to be in tomorrow, but I'm not sure I believe it -- the hot spells usually last a little longer.

Travis loves to read -- he's just not into reading what he's supposed to be! :D I'm surprised he couldn't get into Treasure Island -- it seemed pretty interesting to me. I don't think I've ever read the Secret Garden!

Tonight I added corn to the cucumber and tomato salad after hearing about the corn and black bean salad again from Chris -- it was yummy!!
