Jogging and Colds

Shaz

Cathlete
I have another fitness question (you can tell I'm not doing much work today!) I would really like to take up running as the weather is finally starting to improve (I'm in the UK). But, whenever I have tried running regularly in the past, I have always caught a cold soon after I start. I don't usually get many colds, and I can do other forms of exercise without a problem. But running has had this effect on me ever since I can remember, even if I take extra vitamin C. Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!
Sharon.

Hi Sharon, that's an interesting question. The first thing that comes to my mind is: are you dressing properly? Are you wearing clothing that wicks moisture away from your body? Cotton is a terrible wicking material. There are several brands of clothing made for wicking including Cool-Max and Dri-Fit. They are synthetic materials made specifically for this purpose. Also, make sure you aren't wearing too many layers so you end up trapping sweat & body heat. Make sure too that you are properly hydrated. Dehydration can lower your resistance to illness

Anyway check out http://www.roadrunnersports.com for a huge selection of running clothes.

Good luck with your running!
