Jazzercise

didn't want to hijack the other thread!

Beavs, what is Jazzercise like? I have a friend who's been begging me to join her for a class (she loves it and thinks it's the be-all end-all of exercise). What exactly is it? Just wondering if I'd like it.

I think we (my friend and I)just cancel each other out. I have an idea in my head of Jazzercise being a circa-1980's aerobics class and she probably thinks that there's no way I'm getting a good workout from following dvds!!!!

I really like Jazzercise despite it's silly name. I've heard people on this board pooh-pooh it but I find you can make it as intense as you want it to be. There are aerobic segments that aren't too dancy followed by toning exercises where you can use bands of varying degrees of intensity or weights (I use anywhere between 8 to 10 pounds depending on the exercise). The place I go to offers circuit as well as Jazzercise. They also offer body sculpting (which is good for your non Cathe resting days) as well as step (I go with the higher step heights to keep the intensity up). I've been going for many moons and I tend to modify the exercises to make them even more challenging. The music is pretty good and I like the camaraderie with other sweaty cool chicks.

So, I recommend you try it. You might enjoy it. And don't forsake you Cathe because she is definitely the more intense option but I find I still get a great aerobic workout from Jazz and find the sculpting classes good for "resting" days and work the muscles a bit differently than the Goddess of Fitness }(
Does this help??? :)

Thanks so much. I may just do it. I don't get to see this friend that often, since we no longer work for the same company, so this may be a good way to catch up with each other and get a workout, too!

Several years ago I was taking jazzercise classes 2x per week for a year. That combined with watching my diet and a little bit of at home exercise helped me to shed some unwanted pounds. I really enjoyed the classes at the time but I was not as advanced of an exerciser as I am now. I haven't been back so I can't say how it would be for me now but at the time I really liked it! Fun and effective!:)

I totally agree and it will be a great way to catch up with a friend. It's fun and it's a break from the usual routine, at least for me. At the moment I am suspending my account so I can try some bootcamp classes at another facility but I know I'll end up back with the gang eventually.
